Newbie Having Problems Setting Up Remote on iPad
« on: May 13, 2015, 09:34:57 am »

I was able to set the JRiverMC remote up easily on my iPhone but when I try to enter the network key on the iPad, the dialog box completely disappears when I click on it to begin entering the network key.

Any help would be appreciated.

So is the only way to get support from this company?  Post your problem and then hope someone will help you?  No phone support?  No email support?   ::)

I had been using Audirvana Plus but I've grown tired of waiting for a dedicated remote for the iPhone & iPad.  So I heard about JRiver.  But it's frustrating not being able to enter the network access key.  Must be a bug in the app.

A screenshot might help. I have no idea from your description what might be happening.

Is it an older iPad?  It may not be supported any longer.

Jim, it's an iPad Air.  I'll try to post a screen shot.

Here is the screen to add a network access key:

This is what happens when I touch the enter access key dialog box:

Thanks for the screenshots.

That's crazy, and doesn't happen on any of the iPads I've used JRemote with.  Have you tried deleting and reinstalling the app?  That's usually a good troubleshooting step with most apps.

Also, if you haven't before, try it in Portrait orientation.  Perhaps it is a landscape-specific bug?

Thanks for the reply.  Yes I have deleted it and reinstalled.  I also have tried using it in landscape to no avail.

I bought the My River app and it works fine.  I prefer the JRemote app on my iPhone but I also prefer to use my iPad.  The My River app will serve the purpose though.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Sorry for the trouble.  I definitely haven't seen that.

Strange. JRemote works great on iPad, so that's really too bad. I'll reset mine tonight and make sure it isn't some kind of recent bug. I just set up a new retina Mini a month or two ago, though, without drama.

I have had the exact same issue. Portrait orientation solved the problem.

Oh!  Didn't I suggest that? I noticed your screenshots were landscape...

It's no big deal. Didn't mean to be snotty. I just thought he'd tried that, and that's why I was confused.

I'm not shocked that particular thing doesn't rotate correctly. JRemote used to be portrait-only, so I'm sure that just got missed. But no big deal since you only add the server once.

You did tell me to that.  I hadn't had enough Java.   :o

Morning brain got the best of me.  Thanks to both of you for helping resolve this issue.

Also, for the record, Jim explains why support is via this forum here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=43159.0

I understand your initial concern. I've used products from companies before where "support" was from a forum, and people from the company were nowhere to be found (and so the forum is filled with half-hearted people who can't really help you, just commiserate).

I get it.

It isn't like that here.  As I mentioned above, within less than a day, you got a reply from the CEO of the company. The lead programmers at JRiver spend a ton of time here on the forums, helping and looking for feedback. It is a very community driven application. And doing support here means that next time someone comes along and can't figure out how to set up JRemote with the iPad held in landscape mode?

They might find this thread with a search. If they don't, we can point them to it.

So, dive in. Ask if you have further questions. MC is a very deep and powerful application. Almost everything about it can be customized.
