conversion failed
« on: June 01, 2015, 02:11:20 pm »

I get the message "conversion failed" for two thirds of all flacs I try to convert to mp3 to my external drive since yesterday.

I converted several hundred albums with no problems whatsoever. Thought the external drive might be the problem. In fact the number of failed conversions driops considerably, but there still are failed conversions. Any ideas?

Before I forget: It would be nice to have an error message when a conversion fails. You have to switch to the details view to see what went right and what went wrong. But on the main screen all is shown as "completed", no matter if successful or not.

More than one terrabyte to go...

Is there a log that is more meaningful than "failed"?

You can turn on logging in MC (Help menu).
The conversion is usually done in MC's temp directory in the AppData\Roaming directory.
Can you check to see if the flac files that didn't convert are read-only?

Thank you for your input.

The files that fail can be converted if I give it a second or third try. The are not -ro. I will turn logging on and see what is happening.

What version of MC are you using?  20.0.114 is at the top of this board.

Solved, sort of. I had two external drive connected to one usb port via a four port hub. This went well for quite some time.

Now I put the two drives on different ports and everything is fine again. I have no idea why this problem developed, but it is fixed for now.

Ah, it sounds like you were getting USB timeout errors...
