Hello,

I was exploring JRiver, it's nice and the price is understandable.

BUT, there is so much clutter.

I basically would like a Disk Tree Based viewer where none of the audio/video/images are mixed together.

I want NO Scrapper at all, except maybe for the audio as everything is categorized the way I want them.

I only need filename search, some main audio scrapping, and the rest displayed as is.

Theater mode should default to window 2 as my main window is reserved for library view.

Of course, the streaming is also there and the android remote, which is good.

Is there an option in JRiver to turn off all those settings from our view ?

Also, I found a BUG, when you first install JRiver, it doesn't open if you uninstalled internet explorer like I did, you need to Re-double click on the .exe and then choose chromium as the engine.

Under the View menu, you can choose "Audio Only".  In Tools > Options > General > Features, you can remove features.

can I just add a VIEW MASK, and keep the library empty ?

Will jriver be able to still search the file names ? and display what is inside the folders I map ?

You need a library.  You can import what you want.  Read about importing files in the Getting Started link in my signature.

In the Features option I mentioned above, you can select video and audio so they are both shown in the tree.

Using folders to browse is a little antiquated, compared to viewing the files by their tags, but MC has an Explorer built in.  It's under Drives and Devices.

I want my friends to access music, but not family videos...

Have you tried using JRiver with it's Audio views?  Like by Album, or by Artist?  Artist view is VERY intuitive for most people, as it lets you select the Artist you are interested in, then see all of the albums by that artist, and then drill into a specific album to see songs.

Or perhaps the Panes view?  Panes is very efficient (if not all that attractive) for letting you rapidly narrow down your choices.

You should try what is built in because, frankly, you are asking for the opposite of what JRiver was designed for.  Most of the power and the ease of use of JRiver is based on using Tags, rather than file and folder names.

Sometimes change is BETTER than what it replaces.  Not always.  But in this case...

I understand what you are saying, believe me I know, but I don't agree.

If a software can do complicated stuff, it should do simple stuff.

I have 19 TB of data. And I already spent a LOT of time organizing all of them in folders and types.

JRiver is so much customizable, why not being able to customize it to suit my needs ?

JRiver is great with transcoding, and I like that. So I like the complicated and sofisticated engine underneath.

It's just I would like to be able to add all my files to my library WITHOUT having to scrape/analyse the metadata and tags. (for images and videos at least)

And I would like to be able to have different users so that the kids can't access stuff through the network.

When you do your initial import via Auto Import, or a one time Import, you can tell JRiver to only select certain types of files.  Just Audio for example.  Uncheck the check boxes by Video and Images.  You can even go further down (in Audio) and tell it which types of Audio to import and which ones to ignore.

You should try this with some sub-set of your files.  Maybe one or two artists with a few albums each.  That way you can verify that it works and get a handle on it.

Once you've done the import, if you *really* want to view your files by the file system tree of folders, you can do this directly.  In the Navigation Pane to the left, go to Audio > Files .  Then you can drill down into the file system, just like you were using Windows Explorer or something similar.  It will ONLY show the files you have imported though.

As far as I know, you *have* to Import files to use them in JRiver.  Once you do, you can navigate by the Files view I described, or any other view you might want to try.

No. In the Windows version, you can access your entire filesystem under Drives & Devices > Explorer in the Tree, imported or not.

Most of the power of MC is limited when you use it this way, but it is handy for looking around and importing files in unusual spots, on occasion.

I wouldn't call this a bug, actually. Things not working are bound to happen once you uninstall Internet Explorer.

It's funny how everything that is a "given" at any point in time, will change over time.

For so many years, Microsoft was the "evil empire" and some people were eager to uninstall any Microsoft  product.

Now, all of a sudden Facebook, Google and Apple are the "evil empires" and Microsoft are the "good guys"...

And since JRiver provides an alternative explorer engine, it should offer so in the first launch and not depend on IE by default.

My question would be - why did you "need" to uninstall IE?  Would leaving IE on the box compromise it in some odd way?
