my mac mini cannot play ape files with MC20
« on: June 08, 2015, 03:31:00 am »

I just  downloaded MC 20 for my new mac mini (OS 10.10) but found that:
1. it can't play ape files. it says 'nothing to play' when I double clicked the ape file
2.when I played mp4 video files the sound seemed OK but the screen kept on shaking

Have I missed out anything during the installation?

Make sure you're using the latest build of MC from the top of this board.

Yes, it was downloaded from the top thread link. I installed it and put it into the "application" folder. I clicked it open and clicked :file - open media file and opened my external hard disc (2T). When I  clicked on wav or flac files the music came out, but when I double clicked or 'open' ape files, CDImage.ape (say size 200MB), a small window came out that says 'nothing to play'

Is there a .cue file with the .ape file? What happens if you try to open it?

I opened every file under the title song. The jpg and txt files showed the album picture and text. The cue file showed a box with word Exec in it and when I opened it, it says the same :nothing to play

Try opening the .cue in MC itself by going to the File menu then Open Media File... and see what happens.

By default all MC builds support Monkey's Audio files - after all the creator is JRiver's CTO. :P

This is what I do every time I play a song.
I go to File and choose open media file and double click the file with the biggest file size say 200MB.
It plays well with flac and wave files only.

If we can play quick time player (for mp4 files) in MC window, how do we know what if we are using, quicktime player, itune or MC? I could have been using itune all the time and not actually using MC, that could be the reason I could not play ape files!
Did I miss something important?
