I used any dvd trial version to digitize my dvd collection to 3tb ext hd. The video will start playing but freezes after a few seconds of playing.

I bought jriver 20 when it first came out and video playback was fine but now that I updated it  a couple of times (2 or 3) it doesnt  work.

I have gateway computer running

windows 7 64bit

i3 intel dual core at 2.93ghz

8gb memory

2GB AMD RADEON HD6670 (drivers up to date)

What has changed and is their any solutions available

Thank You

Your title says "crash", but your message says "freezes".  Which one is it?

Try playing a local file.  It's possible the drive isn't fast enough.

when I play a movie the screen pauses or freezes and when I check the task manager It states jriver is not responding.

It did seem to work when played from local hard drive. Thanks for solution. After I transfer movies to local Drive and try them I will be sure. My external is 3.0 usb capable but I have normal usb port (not 3.0) so could that be the cause.

Unfortunately, playing DVDs from external drives over 2GB is known to be broken - and even more unfortunate, the component in question is out of our hands, since its part of Windows. Sorry. :(

As a workaround, converting those DVD's to .mkv files using makemkv will solve the problem.  The issue is a limitation that only applies to DVD's in ifo/vob format (i.e. native disc rips).
