The problem does appear to be confined to a few files, but it's taking some time to isolate them, since as soon as MC attempts to build the thumbnails, it crashes. Once I've done that, I'll see if MC for Windows can build the thumbnails (it certainly doesn't crash in the attempt). But maybe I should do this the other way around, and check my Windows install to see if there are files w/o thumbnails.
