no idea but if it is - I seriously hope the Apple graphics guys come up with some skins cause one area Mac's have ALWAYS been hot on is GUI looks - they always look sharp - 3 or 4 more skins from those guys would go down great :)

Not being a MAC user, I have never used iTunes or anything, but last week I saw my first demo of it on TechTV, and I swear, MC + Metal Skin .= (identically equals) iTunes, including the panes!

The only difference was the tree:  iTunes' tree was a lot simpler (read:  less branches).

Granted, that guy might have been using a 3rd party metal skin as well, but still, if no one told me that that was iTunes being shown, I would have thought it was MC.  :o ;D

I could be wrong but I think Apple's UI design spec specifies that all multimedia applications use that metal skin (e.g., iTunes and Quicktime).  It might apply to other apps as well.

I'm a big Mac fan (especially since OS X came out) and even owned an iBook for awhile.  iTunes is really nice but not nearly as robust as MC.  Then again it's about 1/10th the complexity as well.

Although I don't think it's unlikely that Apple would let a third party developer create iTunes for the PC, I would also think it more likely for it to be done under lock and key and not as publically as MC is developed.  I could be wrong, though.

All music on the iTunes Music Store is encoded in the industry-standard AAC audio format.

unless MC9 is going to support this format i think this is a long shot in the dark at 300 meters.

That's an excellent point.

Why? All MC would need is a simple plugin and it would support AAC. For all we know, JimH already has this plugin sitting on his desktop.  ;)

If JRiver had had anything to do with the development of iTunes I think it would definitely be safe to say that iTunes fro Windows would NOT be MC.  They may have used MC code for it but it would be iTunes for Windows.  In that sense it would be pretty much identical to ITunes for Mac.  Remember a few months back a build was released that did not have the stop button and the buttons had been moved to the middle.  We were told that was for another project...  catch my drift....
If, and it is a big if, JRiver have been involved in this I think the two will definitel;y remain as two separate products with iTunes supported by Apple and MC supported by JRiver.

Jim hasn't closed the thread so I'm guessing he's enjoying watching everyone guessing.

He's the only one that knows one way or the other.

I'm gonna guess no due to the fact that MC cant sync with the iPods (as far as I know) like iTunes can.
iTunes for windows would sync with the iPod just like the Mac version I reckon.

Thats my point though.  In this hypothetical situation which we are talking about ;D I don't think MC would be iTunes or iTunes would be MC.  They would be completely different pieces of software that would just happen to share some of the same code.  I don't think MC is going to become iTunes.  It is far too complex for that...

i use iTunes at work... and MC at home.

i lovED iTunes but I'll be asking MC's hand in marriage.

itunes is great and all, but MC is my one-stopper for the PC....

there's no doubt ill have them both installed though... i just hope MC ATLEAST gives us the option to buy AAC support.

It'd bloody well better, my friend.  These things can do some tricks with iTunes.

I would hope that, in these hypothetical dealings, Steve'd get hooked up with an SDK for the iPod.  :)

I don't know why they don't just make Mac OSX for Intels-compatibles, but that's waaaay off topic.

I'm just as amused reading this.  I posted this more for fun rather than in true seriousness.   It is kind of interesting, though.
