Licensed Customer Seeks help with Buffer Overrun

Hi all:

So far I've tried reinstalling software, trashing temp files, nothing seems to help...when I open the program I get a buffer overrun warning.

I notice that I can ignore the warning and keep working if I don't close the warning window. If I click OK , though, the program shuts down.

So far, I' not thrilled with the support given to paying customers.

why don't you supply some usefull information

like go to help, and system info and paste that into your next message.

did you read the burning FAQ about this?

did you try changing the burn settings?

As for the support, well....you can get help if you keep your daggers sheathed.  ;)

Need a bit more info for some useful help.

I'm gonna put my money on this being the "c++ buffer overrun" error dialogue.

Still, like the guys say, we'll need more info first.

No, Never

I just get tired of "this support sucks" when they post no info for anyone to help them and they only have posted 1 or 2 posts.

they feel the need to add in the message "paying customers" like thats going to help...

As a "Paying Customer" I am very happy with the support I have received. Work with the folks here and you will receive more help than you can imagine.
This is a great group of people here who are very helpful, just give 'em a chance.
By the way, is there really such a thing as "Non-Paying Customers"??

OK: I'm sorry  :'( for the seeming harshness of my original post. I was experiencing frustration at the time that according to the "support" tab on the JRiver site, there is no way to contact them directly for support issues.


Moving on :) ...As stated in my initial post, the buffer overrun occurs when starting the program. I don't get as far as ripping or burning.

What other info could I post to make this useful?

this seems to be a problem.

for some reason it is seeing driver "A" as your burner, when it should be a floppy.

also it looks like a bunch of junk chrs.

it seems it maybe a system problem.

never heard of this one before

maybe if you go into MC9 and under the burner there was a "Detect" button see if it is there and see if it helps if you push it.

You say it crashes as soon as you start it up. How did you get to the Help menu and then the System Info menu item and then get the dialog with the info to pop up and end up with that data in your Windows' clipboard to send to us?

I guess what I'm asking is, if it /doesn't/ crash right when you start it up, what does cause it to crash? The first click on a tree item? ?

Pensive - I think he said he could carry on working until he Ok'd the message so he'll have got the system info copied to clipboard before Oking.

Shrubman - I'm sure JRiver will see this tomorrow and offer some useful assistance.  You shouldn't see the lack of direct support as a drawback, it actually works very positively.  By posting problems here instead of contacting JRiver many problems are quickly and easily solved without their intervention which means:
a) they can get on with developing this great software
b) you get a quicker response and the benefit of the input of a lot of well informed people.

In my experience many firms that offer direct support are not very responsive and when you do get a reply it's some standard message that's no use to anyone.

BTW - If King Sparta's suggestion didn't work have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?

By the way I have recvd a buffer over run when playing music and it happens on the same file each time i click on it.

it could be a corrupt media file that is creating this and bug in MC9 for allowing the crash.

Edit: The Media File Plays Fine in Windows Media Player But Crashes MC9.1.224

I have now found 3 files that make MC9.1 Crash with this error.

It seems to be a bug in MC9 since they play on other Media Programs Just Fine.

Shrubman Maybe you have the same problem.

Shrubman - You said you get the error when you start the program.  Do you have MC set to start playing the current playlist on startup? (Tools>Options>Startup Settings).

If so try turning it off and advise if you still get the error.

It is not set to start with current playlist.

Also, I have gotten now the error as the C++ error as well as regular buffer overrun. It seems like sometimes the program will start once cleanly after re-install but subsequent startups generate the error.

A few more things. Just reinstalled again. Got error again. Cleared library. Same problem upon restarting MC, even with no library.

Any more thoughts, folks?

Did you use a download manager to download the program?  Star downloader creates problems (for one).  

If so, disable and download again.

Update folks:

After making necessary system updates to combat the blaster worm, MC was working better for the most part.

Now, buffer overruns are again appearing but this time a reboot always cures the problem. It seems that the first time MC is launced after a reboot is fine, subsequent restarts are a problem though.
