JR 30 ASIO lock sound, JR 31 doesn't [Solved]
« on: February 03, 2024, 03:52:16 am »

JR 30 ASIO locks sound, JR 31 doesn't lock, background sound works in 31. Like that's not exclusive mode
Does that have influence on sound quality and how to change this? ASIO volume works ok in both

Win 10x64 Pro LTSV
Musician Pegasus, ASIO driver installed

Do a Google search for Exclusive Mode.  You probably have it turned on in MC's settings.

I have exclusive mode set (checkbox) in device settings for WASAPI, but not for ASIO
BTW, MC is x32
Exclusive mode in windows driver panel selected. I googled as you asked above

I also found "ASIO is basically always exclusive. The Windows settings don't affect it."

Really, look like ASIO is always exclusive

That's actually not true, ASIO isn't always exclusive. My DAC's ASIO driver doesn't support exclusive mode for PCM, only for DSD, and there's no way to force enable exclusive mode at all for PCM. Because of that I have to use WASAPI exclusive.

Yes, the driver problem is clear in your case. But exclusive mode is working for 30, but not working 31.
That's why I draw a conclusion that it's MC problem. ASIO exclusive working well in Foobar too

Are you absolutely sure? Do a comparison of all audio settings in MC30 vs MC31 and see if there's any differences. Also check DSP Studio > Output Format for differences.

31 pure settings for music, ASIO not exclusive

30 for video, ASIO working right, exclusive

Output Format is checked in 31 and not in 30. Not sure why that would make a difference but something to check.

Audio Path tells you if it the Output is exclusive or not. It has that information for WASAPI, but I cannot remember if it does for ASIO also and I do not have an ASIO system to check here. But, take a look. It will also tell you what sample rate it is outputting.

You might try re-installing the ASIO driver. Again, not sure why that would make a difference, but something to try.

You could ask Google.  Just add "JRiver".

Thanks, I'll pay attentions to this issue tomorrow.

Yes, really.  Reinstalling drivers fixed the problem. Thanks for the idea and your time.

I got some strange poor skinny sound. Not clear, but that's my problem. Will investigate later, restore system backup now, but the problem was found and that's great. Thanks.

ASIO drivers can operate in a 'non exclusive' mode. Where multiple applications access the ASIO driver directly and it mixes them. Depending on your hardware and the drivers available for it, this may be configurable, or not. To be clear, this still bypasses the Windows mixer.

Glad you got it sorted.

ASIO drivers can operate in a 'non exclusive' mode.

Mine's definitely non-exclusive for PCM, as it allows system sounds and system audio (at the same sample rate of the audio playing back through the ASIO driver, both system and the typical audio I listen to is 44.1 kHz) to come through at the same time, which IMO makes ASIO for PCM for my DAC useless and pointless. Yeah, I can change my system audio to another sample rate (e.g. 48 kHz) and that mostly works unless I listen to 48 kHz audio, but I shouldn't even have to do that in the first place. It's just annoying (and baffling) to me that ASIO is only exclusive for DSD and there's no option to make it exclusive for PCM. What were they thinking?!? It's the only flaw I've found with this otherwise flawless DAC, which honestly if I knew existed before I got the DAC I would've looked elsewhere. But I guess I should be thankful WASAPI exclusive exists even though that presents all other kind of annoyances...

I have been thinking about looking for a new DAC at some point, hopefully it actually has exclusive ASIO for PCM and DSD. >_>

I catch the dependency:

16/41 - working in non-exclusive mode, the most of my music collection
24/48 - exclusive

Wonderful
