Unable to Restore License after purchasing Ver 9

I had previously purchased MJB 7 Plus and then upgraded to MJB 8 Plus.  Today I purchased MJB Ver 9.0.82 and received a new registration code.  I received an error message (failed to restore).  I tried a second time from the restore info page and received the same error message.  I then received by email a message that I had used one of my restores.  I have checked all of the suggested FAQ's and interacts and have not found a solution.  Media Jukebox  9.0.82 -- C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\

Reboot and then try using IE when you visit the restore page.  I'll reset your restores when you've succeeded.  Email me with your details -- jimh @ jriver.com.

Make sure you have admin privileges.

Jim, I rebooted and went to the restore page, pasted my registration number I had received by email today and still received a failed to restore message.  Is this what you meant by using IE?  Also from a previous post of mine, I was told that I was not running Windows XP Home Edition, but that is my registered OS.  I just received another email indicating that I had used another restore.  Thank you for your help.  Joe K

IE is Internet Explorer.  Try it as your browser.  Not Netscape, etc.

Win2000 is fine.

Are you running with admin privileges?  Check your user account on Windows.

The message is displayed in a Mediajukebox Pop-Up Window and states "Failed to Restore License"

Joe,
I don't know what's going on, but will you try this?

(assuming you have your V7 license on a floppy)

Uninstall V9.

Reboot.

Reinstall V8.

Restore your V7 license.

Then, without uninstalling V8, reinstall V9.

Click on the install key.

I uninstalled V9, rebooted, D/L ver 8.0.388 and after the install was completed, an information pop-up window displayed with the message "You are attempting to open a database that is too new for this version of Media Jukebox.  Please upgrade to the newest version of Media Jukebox".  there is an OK bujtton listed on the pop-up window.  I do have my V7 license on a floppy, thank you.  Joe K

Get rid of the old database files.  Delete the .jmd files in Program Files/JRiver/Media Jukebox/data.

Then run MJ.  It will ask to import files.  Go ahead and do it.

Jim, I did as you instructed and removed all the .jmd files from Program Files and then I was able to D/L V8 and restore with V7 license.  I then D/L V9.0.82, installed and went to the Restore Page and I still got the same error message I had received earlier.  I have now used at least six of my restores.  Thank you, Joe K

Just one more thought.  I'm not sure whether you tried a restore and then saving the install key by right clicking on it on the web page.  Save it to your desktop and then click on it.

Jim, I have emailed you a copy of my v7 license also a copy of my v9 registration and installation key.  I did save a copy of each to one of my hard drives and also to a floppy.  I have tried to restore by right clicking on the installation key.  Thank you all for all of your help.  Joe k

Jim, for me there has been a postive result of all this trial and error process, I had been having a problem with pops and other noises on v8.  You had tried to help me correct them in the past and the only thing that would elimanate them  would be to begin playing a selection, stop and hit play again.  That problem seems to be corrected now.  Thank you, Joe K

this was a bug when burning and should have been corrected see below..

2. Fixed: Media Jukebox was creating Audio CDs with pops and clicks when it was playing and burning simultaneously.

Jim, I have installed V9 on my wife's computer and was able to restore the license with no problem, I did everthing the same way I had attempted on my system and it worked for her's.   She has never had a registered copy of any version of MJB.  This is strange to me because I have never had any trouble downloading or installing any software on my computer until now.  This is nice that we have a working version on this computer, but I am the one who has the interest in music and want it to work on my computer.  Please let me know if you have any further suggestions.  Thank you.  JoeK on PatK's computer

On my last attempt at a restore on line, I pasted in my registeration number and it began to loop me back several times to an information page Name, Address, Email Address, Password etc.  Thank you Joe K

I just attempted another License Restore From File [.mjr] after receiveing a new RegControl from John T.  I have emailed the exact steps I took to John T. after I received another failed to restore license pop-up.  Thank you,  the turkeys are getting nevorus.    Joe K

John  the following are the pop-up messages I received after clicking on the
RegControl dll file in C:\ProgramFiles\J River\Media Jukebox.

2A.  CheckRegistration ErrorCode

2A.  Leaving CheckRegistration ErrorCode

Media Jukebox 8 Registrartion Screen popped up briefly and then disappeared.

I then went to MC, Help, Restore License From File [mjr].

File Name OK  Checking Ver 8

5.     Install Failed

6.     Trying V9

2.     Install OK, Check Registration

2A.  CheckRegistration ErrorCode

2A.   Checking for Specfic Error

2A.   Leaving Check Registration Error Code

3.      Reg Failed, error=0, errmsg=OK

At the end of Restore Attempt ( A=0,B=[OK], C=0, D=0, E=C;\Joe's
Downloads\MediaJukebox9-#####.mjr), the #'s were actually the correct ones
for my mjr.  I just did not know if I should list the actual numbers on
Interact.

Error Restoring MediaJukebox License OK

Hi Joe,
If you reinstall the latest build of MJ 9, that should go away.

If not, delete the file JohnT sent you and try installing again.

You were right Jim, re-installing MC Ver9.0.84 eliminated the three pop-ups when I open MC.  Still could not restore license.  Thank you, Joe K

Good Morning John T, this time the RegControl.dll did indicate (1.0.65.0).

Saved RegControl .dll to C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox.

Opened RegControl .dll with Microsoft(C) Register Server.

DLL RegisterServer in C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\RegControl.dll
Succeeded.

MC, Help, Restore License From File [.mjr]

Select License File ( Joe's Downloads, Media Jukebox 9-15952, License
File[*mjr].

1.  Install OK, check registration.

2.  reg failed, error=7, err msg= Failed reading registry.

At the end of Restore, A=O, B= [Failed reading registry], C=O, D=7,
E=C:\Joe's Downloads\Media Jukebox 99-15952. mjr.

Error restoring Media Jukebox

License: Failed reading registry.

VERY VERY GOOD !!!!!!!!!

Query Worked!  N bytes=1408, I Ret=234.  OK.


John and Jim I am now a registered user of MC V9.  I have not received any
email indicating I have used any restores lately so I don't know where I
stand there.  I thank you all for the help getting my license restored and I

I just checked your account.  You've got all 10 restores left.  You didn't use any because you were within two weeks of the last restore.

Hi there
I have been using Media Jukebox for some time now (I think I started with v.7) I purchased the License some time ago. I upgraded to V.9 on the instructions of an email I received last week & can not restore my license.
I have the license saved to a floppy disk, but when I click on restore license & point it to my floppy drive there is nothing in the window to select, to restore the licence. I have tried going direct to the drive & restoring the license that way & I get an invalid file msg or a failed to restore license msg.
I have tried going to the 'restore license' page on the website where it asks for my email address. I am now using a different email address to the one I used when I purchased my license. I tried typing in several of my old email addresses & received a 'Error We could not find that email.' page. I also tried using all the different passwords I have ever used in the past but got the same error msg each time.
What can I do to restore my license, without paying again?

After successfully restoring V9 license, I am now getting pop-up messages each time I open MC and then when I try to play the first selection I choose.  The message displayed is (Query Worked!  nbytes=1408, IRet=234   OK).  Everything seems to work correctly after those two pop-ups with no more displays.  Thank you, Joe K

That's just the debug version John sent you.  The real fix will be in tomorrow's build.  When you install it everything should be normal.

King, I appreciate your comments and I am glad that I might have been able to help a bit in solving my own problem.  This has been a pleasant experience being able to receive immediate and colmplete step by step instructions on what I needed to do.  I have installed MC 9.0.85 and everything seems to be working fine.  Thanks again to all who have helped me and hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas.  Joe K
