Media Editor WAV->MP3 ?? Way2 FAST!
« on: January 08, 2004, 12:37:00 pm »

I have a WAV file opened in Media Editor(low quality voice recording) that I would like converted into the most compact MP3 file.
The WAV file is (says at the bottom) 22.1khz, 16bit, 1ch
When I "save as" using MP3 Encoder how do I specify the same
speed (22.1khz)... Is there some additional conversion that I need to do? My output file sounds like it was done by Micky Mouse...
WAY to fast!!   THanks for your help.

You Might Want To Use Media Editor

There Is An Option To Convert The Format Under "Tools"

Try these:

Encode at a higher bitrate.  Test at 128Kbps, etc.

Copy the channel you have and paste it into the other channel before encoding.

OK tried that... Cut pasted into another channel...
Playing from inside the editor sounds great...
Now I save as MP3 set at 128K...it saves the file...
play the file... Sounds like micky mouse?
WHen I view properties in MJB it says...
MPEG-1 Layer 3
128 Kbit CBR
44.1 khz Joint sterio??

If you save it as a wav file does it still sound like a mouse?

Just tried it... It works fine as a .WAV file (although it 31megs)
Just want to make it as small as possible...
Thanks for your insight!

I set the MP3 features at 128kbit and it set it to 44.1Khz.

Converted using MJ and the same settings (128kbt)
and 3 minutes of micky... Also the file is exactally the same
size etc. as the one created with MJ editor.
Thanks Paul

If the re-sampling rate is lower than the original, then playback will sound slow. If it's higher, then it will sound fast. Your wav files must still be 22 kHz. You can encode a mp3 at that rate, but it probably requires a command line switch. With ogg's, you must use the -r 48000 if encoding a 48kHz wav, otherwise it defaults to 44.1 kHz...which makes Micheal Jackson sound like Barry White. If you can truly upsample your wav to 44.1 kHz, then the mp3 should sound fine.

OK I am stumped... Do I need to add some command line
switches to MP3 to make this work?
Perhaps this is outside the scope of MJ and MJ Media editor?
Is there a utility that will do this?
