MC Covert MP3 To MP3 - Lame Not Converting
« on: April 04, 2006, 05:54:18 am »

I have been converting a bunch of mp3 files 40,000+ (they are talk radio files) to 32kbps every so often MC11 stops converting.

there maybe something wrong with the file, but MC22 Should not freeze the convert. pressing stop does abort the file, and then i need to bypass that file in the future.

I just deleted the file, but if you would like to see one of the files in the future i can send one.

This tool fixes mp3-files and prevents MC from hanging (in my case for a few times). But King, you're right concerning freezing. Fixing should be a feature of MC

I'm not sure if it's related but I was having similar problems doing a bulk conversion of flac's to mp3 for my ipod.

It might be

I remember i had a problem before, the file would convert to wave.

then i took the wave file and tried to convert it to MP3

it still did not work.

I tried other bit rates also, nothing worked.

I was thinking it was a problem with the encoder, and maybe bad files.

if it is a problem with the encoder, and MC11 does track the progress of the convert, if the file does not increase in progress then MC should say lets skip it, and show it as a file as not converted.

I've remembered a bit more detail :-)

I was uploading 10,000 songs to my ipod converting from flac to mp3 on the fly.

I'd just leave it running but found it froze on random tracks at random times. the ipod database never got updated so it always stayed empty.

My feeling at the time was that the problem was with the encoder.

i just sent a file

Xxxx-Xx-Xx (0018) - Wings Above the Diamantina - Bony (Aust) Wings Above the Diamantina Ep18

to matt's mail box

it stops the convert at about 90%+

A MP3 tester reported the file being good no (sync errors)

I just Looked In My Processes and Lame Is running 4 times.

One of them acualy seems active, the other 3 maybe when it lockedup and it is still sort of running. Don't quite know what is normal till i reboot.

i am thinking this is not normal, and it was Lame that locked up. Maybe MC can terminate lame when it locks up?

Matt

You Must Take The File (a 64kbps mp3) And Convert it to MP3 32kbps (maybe other kbps may render the same results)

I just sent matt another mp3

2001-02-14 (Xxxx) - Afternoon Play (BBC) - 2001-02-14 Petrella Part 1 - Good Fences Make Good Neighbours.mp3

40kbps MP3 file, Trying to convert to 32kbps MP3

Lame Shows Up In Running Processes

When you press stop lame is still running

if you try to convert again there is 2 lame processes, etc...

when you exit MC, the lame processes are removed

But the file never converts

I am guessing JRiver could not duplicate my problem on the two files I sent. at least on the first file matt said he could not. never heard on the second file.

what i have found out since then

Using the Gogo encoder sometimes works and sometimes stops just like the lame encoder.

then I tried using the gogo encoder as a "external" encoder and it works on the file that would not re-encode using it as a internal encoder.

It is still working when using the plug-in as a external encoder, but not as a internal encoder on the problem files.

so i am assuming there must be something wrong with the way MC11 interacts with the encoder on the problem files when using it as a internal encoder.

When getting down to the last 100 or so files i noticed most of them would not convert.

I also noticed the files were actually in the database 2 times, and all the files that would not convert were in the database twice.

I dumped the database (Cleared) and i am attempting to re-import all media files.

I will then test to see if the files that would not convert will convert after all of the files are imported back into MC11.1

Well That Was Not It, MC Still Stalled On The Mp3's

I Ordered 512 Megs Of Ram And It Came in Today

I just installed Ram And Testing The Files Again.

It Is Not Like It Is A Major Event Since Only Like 5 Files Out Of 20,000 Would Not Convert Properly But It Is Buging Me As To Why.
