Media Center encountered errors ...
« on: January 10, 2008, 06:01:52 pm »

I have set up MC12 on two computers. In the library there are CDs divided into separate FLAC files, as well as discs written in the single FLAC file with CUE sheet. All is OK as long as tracks are played locally. When I attempt to play tracks which have separate FLAC files on a remote computer, also all is OK. But when I try to play tracks from discs which are recorded into one FLAC file with CUE sheet, the MC12 of the remote computer displays the error message „Media Center encountered errors while trying to play the last several files. Please make sure that the path in your media library points to the right location.” Is there any solution known/available?

Are you running the latest MC?  They were making major FLAC changes recently so that could be part of the problem.

Yes, MC 12.0.404

The short answer is that what you want probably won't work.

You can try converting the files to MP3 VBR or similar as they are played.  Check tools/options/library/library server conversion.  It may not work.

The Library Server system is designed to work on a local LAN and over Internet. Library Server translates local filenames to streamable network addresses. A separate complete hard disk file is needed for each address.

Unfortunately the virtual cue files do not work with the Library Server because there are no physical track files to serve.

If you want to share cue tracks on a local LAN MC provides an alternative method. This wiki page has a chapter that explains how an MC library can be shared on a LAN. The article is about DVD video, but the same sharing system works with cue tracks.

OK, all clear, the same story as about non-possibility of streaming of cue tracks from MC12 UPnP server to my Denon AV-4308. Thank you for your answer.

Maybe it would make sense in future to create such a Library Server, which itself would be able to create a physical tracks being guided by a CUE sheet?

Did you try conversion, as I suggested?

No, I’m interested only in lossless compression formats or WAV. Within my interest I’m not viewing as feasible possibilities formats like MP3 for storing/transmitting of music.

You might want to test it.  MP3 VBR will be extremely close to the sound quality.  Library Server can convert as the music is streamed.  The conversion is set on the client side.  It's worth trying.

If you are interested, I can try out if it works. Sadly, as a solution it isn’t good for me.  The sound of MP3, when played by high end devices, is not so close to that of a CD.
