While trying to play 24 bit 192khz FLAC files I get the message: "Playback could not be started using the format 192000 Hz, 24 Bits Per Sample, 2 channels. Would you like to have your DSP studio > Output Format settings changed automatically."
If checked yes, it changes to resample sources less than 44,100 Hz or greater than 96,000, sampling to 96000 Hz.

What settings do I need to play 192,000 files? I would like no resampling at all especially for my growing number of Master Tape Quality files (which are 2 channel actually). I use WASAPI event style, all variables on recommended (including JRSS v2.0 mixing).

Any tips?

I assume your soundcard/DAC is/are capable of reproducing 192kHz 24bit: if this is correct, you most probably
have to change the sample rate in the driver settings of your output device (soundcard).

Infact, not all SW drivers are auto-sensing the sample rate of the audio files adapting on the fly to
any sample rate/resolution combinations.

I use an Arcam rDAC which is 192/24 capable. It is connected through USB, so as far as I know my PC's soundcard is not in the loop here.

In that review, they say that the chip is capable of 96Khz:

The rDAC features a higher specification than the DacMagic with the inclusion of a 24-bit/96kHz BurrBrown DAC which will also decode USB files at the same rate.

I found the manual for the wired version on their web site and it only supports 192Khz for the coax connection.  See the attached image.

From the user manual of your DAC it appears that it does support 192-24 only through coaxial SPIDF, while USB is limited to 96kHz.

I think the only way to reproduce your files at native sample rate you have to use either a USB to SPDIF adapter
or a sound card with coaxial SPIDF output capable of 192-24.

Many recent motherboard with integrated HD multimedia chipset are equipped with an internal connector for SPIDF
up to 192-24. For laptop/notebooks the only choice available is the USB adapter.

Many thanks for all the answers. Obviously my Arcam rDAC is the bottleneck for playing 192kHz files through USB. For this moment I will just hold on to the setting 'resample sources less than 44,100 Hz or greater than 96,000, sampling to 96000 Hz' in JRiver.

Using a USB to SPIF adapter as suggested is not an option since the USB connection on the rDAc is clearly superior to the SPIDF. I don't think it will be any better then downsampling the 192kHz files to 96kHz instead. I follow my dealer's suggestion and start saving for an Antelope Zodiac DAC which can handle up to 384kHz through USB.

Anyway , I stick to JRiver. Great media player and great support, thanks!
