Problem getting Library Server Playback (Tremote) working
« on: February 06, 2013, 01:59:42 am »

I hope someone can help with what seems like a stupid problem...

I am using two copies of MC, one as the client, and connecting to the library server  in the other room(the HTPC).

Connecting to the library server works fine.  I can play songs from the library server, and the sound comes out on the client, no problem.

I want the sound to come out of the server.  To do this, several threads on Tremote say "oh just click on the remote server under playing now" and it will work.  A location under Playing Now called "There" should appear on my client.

It does not.  The item "There" does not appear on my client at all.  I have a "Here" which is the local client PC.

How can I play on the remote server if "There" doesn't show up?  I have tried with "Show playback zones from the server on the client" both checked and unchecked: it makes no difference.

I'd be much obliged for a solution...

If both the Client and the Server have the Media Network option activated, make sure they aren't running on the same port, and don't have the same Access Key.  I've seen this cause this kind of issue (usually because you restored settings from one machine onto the other).

That seemed like a promising idea, but it didn't solve the problem.

I tried the following, restarting after each attempt:

-Changing media access key on client
-Changing port on client
-Turning off media network on client entirely

None of these caused "There" to appear under playing now.  Still can't get sound to play on the server.

Thanks!

I've attached an image of what I see here.

You'll see several devices just under Playing Now.  Those are the devices I could play to (by dragging an audio file or files to them).  Player is my local machine.

In the section just below that (Playing from...), you'll see the devices that are serving content.  I could load any one of those and play from it.

If you don't see a device, there may be a firewall issue.

Attached is what I see.  As I said, it's no problem to play from the HTPC.  The problem is getting the sound to play ON the HTPC.

There is no firewall issue.  The two machines are on the same internal network, with no firewall between them.  Windows firewall is disabled on both PCs, and there is no other firewall installed.

Any other ideas on what is causing this?

One other one...

Did you restore the Library (and settings) from one machine onto the other?

If you do this in order to "unify" your settings between the two machines, but you intend to use both on the same LAN at the same time, this can cause problems with the Zone GUIDs.  Matt mentioned it here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=77823.msg528350#msg528350

There are instructions in that thread on deleting the errant GUIDs to force MC to recreate them.  This might solve your problem.  If not, the problem seems similar enough that you might want to bump that thread too.

Thank you glynor!!!

Deleting the Player Zone GUID keys as described in that thread solved the problem.

Much appreciated!
