Feature Request - Auto zone changing
« on: August 23, 2013, 08:49:26 am »

This has been requested a few times, so to add my vote...

I'd really like to be able to change zones song to song by some automated mechanism, eg via Keywords saying what zone a song should be using.

Some songs have too little bass - so I have a zone - PEQ_Add_Bass
Some songs have too much bass - so I have a zone - PEQ_Cut_Bass
Some songs have too much...  Etc

Supporters, rally here!

You might be able to do that with ZoneSwitch:

You can do that already with ZoneSwitch. Need the keywords though http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=76605.0  :P

You ALMOST can do it... >:(

In v18, I set up ZoneSwitch with some rules, eg:

Display name:
 Zone_DSP_CutBass
Engage:
  [Keywords]="Zone_DSP_CutBass"
Play zone:
  Zone_DSP_CutBass
Stop Playback in these zones
  I tick all other zones

I repeated to above with different zone names and different keywords (So 5 different keywords and zones).

The playback result...

If I select just 1 song and play, it works perfectly, changing to the correct zone and playing correctly.

But as soon as I select multiple tracks and add to queue, MC does not always change zone at the correct point, and often says:
   "Something went wrong with playback'.
at other times.
I only get this message when playing with zone rules in this way.

I tried again with v19, but same result.

Some time ago (v18), Matt said:

But I don't think the current ZoneSwitch system is good for per-file changes.  It's better for per-album, per-movie, etc. settings.
Someday we may add a way to save and load DSP settings for certain files (we've laid some of the groundwork in MC18), but it won't happen in MC18.

So it would be great if Matt can take another look at per-file zone switching...

I see what you mean, it wasn't clear to me in your first post that you were doing this from a playlist. On a song by song basis it works, but I guess you'd consider it manual

Example if you double click a song that's lets says is "funk" with a tag somewhere +BassDSP it will change the zone no problem

if you double click on a classical track tagged with NoDSP   it will clear again change zones etc. and stop  this works without a hitch. as many zones as you want.

For me that is automatic, sorry to be so adamant - I was pretty sure of myself  ;D. It never crossed my mind to create a playlist for that reason. Tagging all the tracks with a "dsp" field must be a LOT of work.

Wouldn't that alter the files themselves, like an albeit temporary "normalizing". if the tag was written to the file you'd have to remove it to have a "bitperfect" (ok lets not go there  ;)) no DSP playback, wouldn't you?

It would be great to see rules based zone switching acting within a playlist added to v20.   Pretty please  :)
