Since a few day's MC started to create double entries of meta data like this (see attachment):

1. What is the reason for this?
2. How to stop it?
3. How to get rid of it?

Thank you very much for your help!

Have you edited, tagged, moved, copied, imported, re-imported etc in any way the files that appear duplicated?
Are they on an external (USB?/Networked?) disk
How many files are affected?
Have you tried re-importing one of the duplicated folders?

You could take a backup (as a precaution) and then restore from an older one.

This is just a hunch - What is your 'Fix broken links' setting?

I have not edit, moved, copied etc. the files in the last few days. Only think I have done: The path to my backup disk (library backup) was reset by MC to the default path C:\.... and I have changed that back to point the backup to my USB disk. I have also moved the backup files under C: \ to the backup disk.

I have added only around 50 files new to my library during last week. In the mean time my 34 000 lib entries are ~58 000 lib entries. The physical files are not duplicated.

I have all my backups. But I have not restored one now.Monitoring what is happening.

I will look on that on Sunday.

I have restored the library from one of my backups a few day's ago.

I rebuilt the thumbnails and run an auto import.

The duplicates are still there.

But now MC has also deleted some physical audio files: For example the Alexa Feser album contains only the cover art now, no flac files any more.

What is happening here? (I have all audio files on a backup, but before restoring them I want to understand what is going on here)!

->During auto import is set to yes

Find two duplicate entries.  Use your mouse to hover over each of them.  In the tooltip, you will see the location of each file.  Compare them carefully.

You either have two sets of files or a mapped drive that points to a location that your computer also sees and is importing.

Example:  Z: is \\something and you have MC set to import both Z: and \\something.

There are the following differences if comparing two rows of the same .flac file etc:

- I had added a self defined field to the library named "Backup Disk" - the name of the disk where I had the backup of the physical files. Each backup dsik has a pysical label, with name , backup date etc.

->Now i have two values in the field: Backup.Multimedia-DVD-BD-21-02-2017;Backup (M)-Regular-Disk

-The library field "date first rated" also has two values now:22.02.2015 14:40; 30.10.2017 15:45

-The bookmark field has also two values: " "; 2435

-Date last Opened also has two different values sometimes

-Last Played;Last skipped; Number plays;Playbacklist;Skip Count;also has two different values sometimes

- User has two different values

Filepath is always the same comparing two double entries.

- Restored the first backup from the beginning of august, where everything was working. The double entries are now gone :) So something between the beginning of august and now had changed. What I don't know.

- The Alexa Feser files I will restore from my backup

- I will monitor behaviour of my lib over the next day's.

Going back to the backup from the beginning of august solved the problem. I restored the missing Albums from my backup disk using EaseUS Backup. (It's good to have a history of library server backups and backups of the audio files :) ;))
