Restoring from Backup problem
« on: January 23, 2019, 11:43:55 am »

My old setup had the music library on drive D witch should be the CD Rom drive but for some reason during the rebuild it changed the drive letters of all the drives and re-assigned the CD-Rom drive to E.  Now that I have had to rebuild again the drive assignment is what it should have been the CD-Rom drive is D and the Music library is E.  However all the backups I have made show the Music library and drive D so when I restore the library it doesn't work because it cant find the music drive. Does anyone know of a work-around to fix this?

Just pick all the files, right-click > Library Tools > Rename, Move & Copy Files...

Then pick the mode "Update database to point to new location".

Then in find & replace, enter the drive the files were on and that they're on now.  (ie. D:\ with E:\)

Then click OK and watch all your files get fixed :)

You might try a few before doing all.

It's part of the Rename, Move, & Copy Files... tool.

I tried that and made a mess.  Now I have multiple libraries some are D:\Music and some are E:\ Music and the thumbnails are all mixed up and most are missing. I think I need to start over.

If I do start over should I import my music first or just find and replace the D:\ with E:\ and then use restore?

The CD-ROM doesn't have to be D: It's normally the next free drive at install time but that's just for convenience.

Make your music drive D: once again in Windows and make the CD-ROM Z:  and the problem's gone away. (Move the CD drive first in Drive Management | Change Drive letter and Paths . . .)

Is there a way to delete the library so I can start over, if so where is the library located?

Do I have to import music before I restore from backup? Or does Restore take care of everything?

Restore from a library backup should bring everything from your last library back. Just make sure that it is a backup from before your problems started!

Thanks guys, changing the drive letters with the disc manage tool and restoring worked with the exception of a dozen or so album cover art files. :)
