Driver question

I just purchased a Loxjie D50 DAC which has Xmos (if that mens anything to you). I use USB connection. But when I try to download The units driver I get nowhere. The Loxjie DAC shows up in The mc 32 with The right name, but I Can only choose between Direct Sound or Wasapi. Until now I have had an Asio driver for a Cambridge Audio DAC. I have been told that this is The best Way to send Audio fra My computer to a DAC. The Loxjie does PLAY DSD files in wasapi mode though. Am I doing something wrong? Is The wasapi just as good ss asio? Thanks for your help.

ASIO drivers are supplied by the device manufacturer.
WASAPI is fine. Probably no difference.

As long as you're using WASAPI exclusive, there's really no difference with ASIO (assuming it's exclusive too, these days ASIO exclusive for PCM with drivers is very rare it seems, it may be ASIO shared for PCM).

Your DAC supports DSD512. To do that you need a ASIO driver. DSD over WASAPI maxes out at DSD 256. The manufacturer provides the ASIO driver so it should work. When you select Audio Device under the Audio options you should see a driver that says ASIO. If not, there is something wrong with the driver or its installation. You might want to delete the driver and re-install it and reboot MC.
If you only go up to DSD 256 then Wasapi should work fine as long as the DAC supports DoP at that sample rate.

when I tried to download the driver (which is compressed to a rar file) the google drive link available on the manufacturers site tries unsuccessfully to do a virus scan which fails due to the rar compression but it offers the option to download anyway. When I did that I was able to download it. I think that you'll need to have WinRar installed on your pc to extract the driver exe file. Once you have you should be able to double click to install it and once you have done this, you should now see the D50 ASIO option in MC32.

The latest Windows 11 should be able to open RAR files just fine without needing any apps like WinRAR or 7-Zip.
