Personally i read-protect files to protect them from unintentional tagging, so I actually like that it doesn't write tags, even when its only sidecar-files where the actual file is not touched. At least I think so
Absolutely
I'm not saying remove the dialog entirely, just provide a third button (checkbox?) to remove the status and carry on regardless if the user so desires.
As a personal thing, my library is king. I have backups dating back years, and if something goes wrong, all I'll do is find and export the appropriate data from a backup. It always amazes me when people are fussy about what's in the tags, that's so easy to change
I don't care what's in the file or it's tags until and unless I try to sync it to a handheld device.
If I was doing this my ideal way, the only time the files would be touched is when they're written to a handheld or when I specifically right-click and press update tags, but unfortunately MC doesn't update tags in either case unless the writing tags option is on globally....
