In all of the non-released builds. was they're any changes. It would be nice to see a changlog for the un-released builds, unless the final build that is released includes them. Comments please.

Thanks, looks good.

FYI

Hairstyle/Album/Thumbs

If the last line of Thumbs for an album is less than 4

and you are not directly over one of them when

pressing dw. you will not see the last line.

A little too much I think.    This is one of those things you need once or twice if you're a new user but is kind of annoying after that.

  • Open - Date Opened: 2004/01/12  Priority: Medium
Creating a playlist from the AW causes the view to be reset to 'all' after the playlist name is entered.  'Back' doesn't bring you back to the view that was in effect when you started.

  • Open - Date Opened: 2004/01/12  Priority: Medium
(Also posted in iPOD thread)  If 'Show files at root' is unchecked for iPOD, only the Playlists tree is populated.  Artists, Albums, and Genres have no track entries although they have the artist, album and genre entries themselves.

  • Open - Date Opened: 2004/01/12  Priority: Low
The contents of Burn CD CD-TEXT dialog isn't being remembered between invocations.  Seems to be written OK.

  • Fixed - Date Opened: 2004/01/12  Priority: Medium
The second attempt to create a new playlist via the AW causes the contents of the first created playlist to be shown.

  • Fixed - Date Opened: 2004/01/12  Priority: Medium
If you drag tracks to the AW Handheld item then close the AW sub-window, you're asked if you want to clear the queue.  If you say 'no' the tracks are left queued as expected.  If you reopen the AW Handheld sub-window and drag more tracks, the queue is cleared without warning before adding the new tracks.  Not good.

  • Fixed - Date Opened: 2004/01/12  Priority: Medium
The details view of handheld doesn't remember the position or size of 'Handheld Path' after you move or resize it even if you explicitly save the view scheme.

A few issues:

1. Saving album covers in files is extremely slow. Approximately 30-60 seconds PER track.

2. When converting format from say, APE to MP3 there is none of the Artist as Assorted capability for Compilations. This really needs to be there for consistency and, well it's a great feature!

Thanks.

I like the new hairsprays in hairstyle.

A couple more things after searching my logs:

Various quotes from: Zarius at various times.
Quote
1) I'm having troubles playing some files with this build... Specifically it seems to crash every time I play an 'Old Time Radio' file... eg: "1950-04-08 (0001) - Dimension_X_1950_-_1951 - Outer Limit, The.mp3" (from KingSparta)... can anyone else confirm this? (these files play fine in all my other mp3 players, including Winamp 5) MC seems to play the majority of my files fine... just noticed these few dying.

2) MC seems to take a long time to retrieve the list of artists when adding the 'artists' rule to the search field (or clicking on a pre-existing 'artist' rule).... 15 seconds on my machine.  Admittedly that's quite a few artists (around 2400 here), but it still seems like a long time.

3) Also in the search box... if you click in it somewhere so there's a cursor, then hold down shift and click somewhere else in it, it doesn't select the text in between as one expects it would.

4) Image/Get from internet...
This seems to check tracks in no particular order, I couldn't discern any alphabetical or playlist order in the checking... I assumed it would have been in the same order as the playlist?

1) This is still happening... anyone else?

2) Still there, though it takes 40 seconds now (with only 450 more artists - 2850 now) - this may be addressed with the new database design, but I thought I'd let you know just in case.

3) Admittedly not a bug per se, but doesn't work the way one would assume, as per standard windows programs.

4) Again, not a bug per se, but one would assume it would search in order of the selection.

Just upgraded from version 9 tonight.  Thanks!

Media Core Crash:

If I highlight the first track in my library then press Shift+End to highlight the whole library MC crashes with a media core error every time.  My library is 23000 tracks so maybe this is too much for MC but I wouldn't expect it to crash, which caused me to lose a load of data.  If I highlight the library in smaller chunks it works fine.

15k files here and no problems highlighting the lot (multiple times - from top or bottom), highlights in the blink of an eye.  Maybe it's something else? (eg some file it's trying to get info from on the way down?)

The new AW "Rip CD" setup seems like a big step down from the way 9.1 worked.  If I highlight a couple songs that I want to rip and hit the "rip" button, it goes ahead and checks ALL the files on the CD anyway.  It seems that the only way to rip a single song is to select them all, then unselect them one by one -- a rather long way around compared to the 9.1 method.  Perhaps I'm just missing something here, but even if I am, it's not as intuitive as the previous 9.1 method.

On top of this, as already mentioned, the lack of rip speed is definitely something I miss (I used this as a general verification of both CD and drive integrity.)

I found a minor bug as well, which is that the "toolbar" configuration still allows me to place a "rip" icon on the toolbar, but it is always disabled.

I DO really like having the single line "windows" below the AW that allow rapid, single click access to the various AW items -- this was a very nice addition.  However, it would be far more elegant to allow us to choose the ones we want/need to stay below the AW, and to allow us to lock them so the program launches this way, while at the same time preventing "new" ones to be added.  The constantly changing configuration slows down workflow in my opinion since it creates an inconsistant (and therefore more confusing) GUI.

A good example of where the current implementation becomes clumsy is when cancelling and restarting a single song rip (or any rip for that matter.)  When cancelling, the rip window is closed, and the track list is cleared.  The first step is to go back to the top layer of the AW, reslect the rip button, recreate the list of tracks to rip by unslecting all but the one I want, then hitting rip.  Compare this to the 9.1 method, which allows me to highlight a single song,  then simply hit the ALWAYS AVAILABLE single click "rip" button, and hit start.  Since the highlighted song remains after the cancel, it takes only TWO clicks to start ripping again.  Compare this to the 14 clicks it takes to do the same thing with a 12 song album in MC10.

.DivX files show up in the list with an audio file icon. Filtering the list for audio, video, or photo does not exclude .DivX files from view.

Files stored on my Archos AV380 cannot be played in MC unless you drag and drop the file from the Windows Exploer onto the Now Playing area or use the drive letter under "My Computer".

Portable contents retrieval slow
« Reply #21 on: January 21, 2004, 10:24:50 am »

The retrieval of the contents list from portables is very slow.  It took 17 seconds to display the contents of the Rio Nitrus that I tested with.  This device only contained 184 audio files.  The same retrieval in Rio Music Manager and WMP 9 only took 1-3 seconds.

Portable: Server Busy Message
« Reply #22 on: January 21, 2004, 10:37:35 am »

When I have my Rio Karma in the USB crable and I start MC, I receive a messagebox indicating "Server Busy".

This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy.  Choose 'Switch To' to activate the other busy program and correct the problem.

Once I click 'Switch To', MC displays.  This doesn't happen when I have other portable devices connected to USB when I start MC.

Additional info:

Clicking on the Rio Karma to display it's contents doesn't work.  MC works for a couple minutes and then displays the "Server Busy" message again.  During this time my PC's CPU is at 100%.

This has been in since Ignore Articles first appeared (ie it never worked properly).  I've reported it several times but never had any response.

It would be nice to see it working in other areas too, such as the list of Artists when you're trying to create a Smartlist (currently always sorted as if Ignore Articles was off).  The user experience with this feature isn't very consistent.

Please check out the next MC build. The slowness ( and probably the 'busy' message) was caused by the building of the tree which I totally reworked today.

Thanks for the confirmation and prior reporting history.

I spent quite a while adding "The" and "A" to my tags the other day only to find it  didn't work right.  I'd sure like to know if MC will fix this before I spend the time to remove all the "The" and "A" from my Artist tags.

Is this a priority for MC to fix?  I think this is a reasonable question.  (we did get a clear YES it will be fixed for the large db slowdown problem).

It if won't be fixed, I"ll undo my Artist tag changes.  Also I'd suggest it be removed from options, if it's not working right, and won't be fixed anytime soon, why have it available?

As others mentioned a couple builds ago, MC keeps stealing my association of Windows Media type files from WMP9.  And if I go to Tools -> Options, it says that it's not handling those file types.  For the last 3 public builds, I've had to go into WMP9 after installing and reclaim the Windows Media formats.

No offense intended, but I like streaming WM video and audio through WMP9.

Please fix.

Thanks!

No offense taken.   8)

This was an error on our part and should be fixed in the next build.  You will still need to set the file associations one more time with WMP and then the next time you install you won't need to.

Try this...

Clear Playing Now.
Now go to the Edit Playing Now option in the Action Window.

The text for "no files -- double click here to play entire library" is barely visible.

Perhaps the AW needs to be a little bigger in this case?
