This is in late beta.  It may still have problems.

Please reserve this thread for bugs.  If you're not sure whether it's a bug, or you need to ask a question, please start a new thread.

Please keep a list of issues and report them from time to time until we have addressed them.

The latest stable version of 9.1 is here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

Please check the license and price thread before you download:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=17336

The latest beta of 10 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter10081.exe

IMPORTANT -- This build includes a re-worked handheld system.  Only IPOD, WMDM, and Nomad Jukebox players currently work (for Nomads, please install the new plug-in).  Tread lightly if handheld support is important to you.

10.0.81 (3/01/04)

1. Fixed: Media Editor could fail to decode an entire file in some cases.
2. Fixed: Menu shortcuts (Alt+F, Alt+E, etc.) weren't working properly.
3. Changed: Pressing F3 with an empty list search will prompt for a search before silently repeating the last search.
4. Changed: Selecting in Playing Now will follow current track on Previous / Next unless another selection is made.
5. Changed: Play button in Playing Now honors Options > General > Play button settings.
6. Fixed: Play button from Media Library root would start mixed playback even if an audio track was selected.
7. Changed: Zoom-in / Zoom-out for image playback was not working with the + and - keys by the backspace button.
8. Changed: Image playback doesn't pause a slideshow when changing the zoom, but instead just resets the playback position to 0:00 once the zoom is done.
9. Changed: Image playback position doesn't increment while auto-panning.
10. Changed: MC could use bi-cubic image resizing during an image slideshow, slowing it down too much to justify the quality gain.
11. Fixed: Auto-pan image playback could float around when zooming in / out.
12. Fixed: MC was not updating some areas of UI after a font was changed.
13. Fixed: On insertion of CD, if Auto detect of portables is enabled, MC would try to initialize the portable.
14. Changed: Added keyboard shortcuts for quick list style changing.

10.0.80 (2/27/04)

1. Fixed: MC was not retrieving metadata from Windows Media streams.
2. Fixed: MC could crash when showing a menu, and then moving the mouse left and right a lot to see other menus.
3. Fixed: Media Server could crash when clicking column headers to sort.
4. Fixed: Wait Message could cut off display text in some cases.
5. NEW: Import option "Don't import small files" now filters small images and small data files as well.
6. Changed: Auto-pan during image slideshows zooms less.
7. Changed: Now uses tabs instead of drop box for choosing CD drive in advanced rip configuration. Hopefully less confusion.
8. Changed: Default drive for advanced rip configuration is chosen based on CD being ripped.
9. Changed: Full drive model name is now shown when configuring advanced ripping options.
10. Fixed: Read offset compensation for ripping was not always saved.
11. Fixed: Erase CD/RW option was available on the CD burn menu even when the disk was already empty.

BUGS (of the major variety):
With the handheld redo, I guess, because the portable drive support for my CF-cards no longer works right (via USB reader).

1. MC copied the files out of order...so my Nex II player will not play them back in album-track # order.  Seems like MC is just copying the tracks in some totally random sequence to the CF-card.

2. MC copied the files to the root even though it clearly showed it would upload to a directory (I used drag-n-drop to specify which existing directory on the CF-card MC should upload to).

3. The AW info and popup 'Are you sure' (when you press Transfer) dialog for this process is a big mess...so many ###s (stats) for this and that, but still nothing useful...the most useful one is not there (bytes remaining for this upload).  Those screens will certainly endup on some PC magazine's 'What were they thinking?' list.  So many useless stats in fact that you can hardly make AW wide enough to see them (too funny...sad).  Again,  the one users want to know the most is how many bytes are remaining for current upload queue so they know how much more can be added...the most basic stat when building burn/upload queue.  As implemented now, you have to whip out a calculator and do the math yourself...surely MC can be programmed to do that simple task for the user (you'd think).  Of course, I've been pushing for this feaute (that at existed in MJ 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and MC 9.0) for a few months now...so, it's not like I just brought it up today.

Download Manager is taking over even though it has been disabled.
I double & triple checked and 'disable browser integration' is checked, however whenever I select certain file types (only .asx & .asf so far) Download Manager still starts up. It does not start for other file types, but so far my testing has been much less than exhaustive so there may be other file types its interfering with as well.

Editing in place still broke.  I slow double click and edit, pressing the cursor keys to edit another field, exists from edit mode.

I just reloaded 10.0.70, editing works again....

And the 10.0.70 action window, really does look better, with the alternating colors for the lines with the icons.

The way MC shows time counter information can be really frustrating.  When it nears the end of a song, it automatically starts showing the "pre" time for the next song.  This means that you have no display of what's happening in the last 7 seconds of any given song.  I tried adding other information to the status bar in order to get around this, but MC always re-calculates for the next song about 7 seconds before a song ends.  I added a "remaining time" counter, but at the end of a song it suddenely starts showing the remaining time for the NEXT song.  I want to see a count to ZERO for the CURRENT song.

This makes no sense to me.  We have this terrific ability to customize the display, but it's limited in that we're still stuck with MC's auto switch at 7 seconds out.  It's odd that with all MC's incredible capabilities, a standard CD player has a more logical counter on it.  This seems like an odd omission to me.

Theatre View
I know this has been discussed before, but since my entire family heavily uses Theatre View on our HTPC, I thought I'd mention it again. Theatre mode is great with the only exception of having to change from Thumbnails to Lists ever time we enter Audio mode or Playlists. It's a bit annoying since we just want to be able to navigate to our music and click the play button on the remote. This extra step usually ends up creating a situation where we have to switch back to Thumbnail view when we enter Images, or Video.

The suggestion has been made to allow setting this up on a per View Scheme basis. While this would be ideal, I thought that maybe it hasn't been implemented because it is more involved than appears. An alternative that would suffice and might be easier to implement would be to allow us to set this up in "Configure Theatre View". Could you give us an option to set this (Thumbnails vs. List) PER MODE (Audio, Image, Video, and Playlists)? An added benefit of using this configuration method is that we would be able to set this for Playlists which wouldn't be possible if this was configured only in "Edit View Schemes". I know you guys are busy, but this would help a great deal.

Thank you,

Platu, could you use thumbnails in audio mode?  It looks really nice if you get art for all your albums. (which MC can do)

Matt,

I have about 10,000 mp3's in my library. I do all of my listening based on Genre and artist. I have no Albums defined (and to be honest don't really want to). I could never remember the album a song was on anyway. We entertain frequently (using Theatre View on a 55" RPTV), and find List mode the most efficient way to see and find many songs at the same time. We use page up/down to find things quickly. Thumbnail view may be pretty, but for audio, List view is most efficient. Same goes for Playlist mode. I have a feeling I'm not alone on this one. I'm hoping you can come up with something before the final release. Even a single Checkbox that says "View Audio and Playlists as Lists" would suffice.

Matt,

I didn't see your previous post before I posted. Not to sound like a pain, but having just realized that the per view scheme solution would not take into account Playlists, I not sure what the appropriate solution would be. My issues revolve primarily with Audio and Playlist modes (where seeing many songs is most efficient). The per view scheme solution is great, but leaves out half of my problem. Maybe the Playlist mode could automatically "Remember" it's last view.

Thanks again,

Right clicking is difficult.... the popup-menu disappears (often) before you can make a choise.....

I've got the same problem with editing tags... when choosing a field with F2, changing something and then to the next record with the cursos keys (without first pressing enter) quits the edit-mode.

Still often a crash...
