DVD playback doesn't cause an error, and for the most part works fine. (Now that the black background on the topbar is fixed, looks pretty slick!)

However, when I switched from Fullscreen to Internal mode, and brought up the playback options dialog, the Playing Now window hiccuped and then just showed me the Internet Explorer page I had in the background! (It's as if the DirectShow overlay was transparent).

Switching back and forth between other items in the tree and the Playing Now window didn't do anything. Exiting MC9 and restarting seemed to fix it.

On another note, the button that shows DVD DirectShow playback filters - what should be there? I'm showing a ton of filters, including some that appear to be from other DVD playback software (eg. Cyberlink).

Also, is there a way of saving the video settings as profiles? The reason I ask is that the "Spirited Away" DVD is notorious for having a reddish tinge throughout, and I'd like to correct it just for that DVD.

Clicking on a Playlist Group does not honor the view filter settings.

Note: You will not see these bugs on a small library. (150,479 files)

Importing twice in a row can stall MC for a few minutes (5mins after import). After first import, it's fast. Import again while playlist=[Recently Imported] is showing, it will take longer to update.

Creating a new smartlist with the view filter on can take a long time. It took MC ~5mins to show 4 files on a cleared smartlist. Stuck on gathering files.

Still no right click/Import with a folder in the tree.  The search turns up zero files in the folder I am trying to import.

Well I have a bug...

While playing a track, right click on the tracks in the album and remove cover art.
This freezes MC, you can not do anything else, However the track still plays.

Edit.... Never mind. The problem lied between the chair and and keyboard.

Just burnt a couple of compilation CD's [audio format].

First one was fine, however CD Text was all garbled on second one.  Lots of very strange looking characters.

Why? I burnt them one after the other with exactly the same settings.

I, and others, had a similar problem many builds ago [ roughly 3 months ago].

Settings in the visualisation studio for the playing now visualisations, and column settings are still not being remembered when we upgrade. This is quite annoying.

Has it always been like this? I've only noticed in the last few builds.

Yep, same problem here. I thought it might be something I was doing. The first CD is OK, but 2 subsequent audio CD burns with CD Text were screwed up. They play fine on a regular audio CD player, but don't work on players that read CD text. One Sony Discman got stuck with the display showing "Reading...", another would spin and stop intermittently, and eventually show "No Disc".

Seems repeatable to me - first burn generates a CD with CD Text that works fine, subsquent burns of different mixes have the CD Text all messed up, to the point that they are unplayable on audio CD players that can read CD Text.

Problem 1
Been Playing with Files On A FTP Server And MC9

it seems some FTP clients do not like spaces in the folder names

if you use MC9 to create folders and move files from the old folders this then creates spaces in the folder names and then this again makes the folders not compatable with with FTP clients.

A Bug:

if you find and replace a space in the "pathname" only and replace that space with a "_" it also changes all spaces (for me) the artist name. then i need to go back and replace all the spaces in the artist name back to spaces. I use only rule [Artist] so i am sure the other fields would have the same problem.

there sould be an easyer way to keep a FTP compatable file name without changing the other fields.

could we get and option when MC9 creates folders that the space is replaced with a "_" in the folder name to stay Server Compatable for users who wish to do so?

In Playing Now, after performing a drag and drop operation on a track to move it to a different seq position, the view resets to seq #1 no matter where in Playing Now the action was performed. For instance, after dragging track seq #87 and dropping it after track #67 your view moves to track seq #1 instead of remaining near track seq #67. This was not the behaviour in previous builds.

This has been observed in build 291 by me but Dragyn has confirmed that this behaviour persists in 299.

Thank you.

This version seems very slow to me...

Also, when you connect to a Media Server, it seems to sit there for quite a while after transferring the library, before becoming "active"...

I also notice that this is a little slower.

I am trying to convert files from .ape to wma 60khz. (So I can listen at work)
When I select the tracks (about 3K) and goto convert it takes about 5 min to get the convert screen or menu up. (other builds were instantly) when you do actually start after a while it will just hang.

I have tried twice and when it hung the "Saving Database screen was popped up"
I have used this feature in other builds with no problems.

If I double-click on a music file (like an MP3) in Windows Explorer then Media Center launches with a message that says "Please select file(s) to play".

Recreatable Bug:

From Playing now in the tree navigate downwards with remote or down arrow.  First you come to Find CD which invokes a 'Dial up connection' panel.  As I don't want to connect I Escape or click cancel and the default 'this page cannot be displayed' page is displayed.  Fine, but when you navigate down once more to Artist Info and Escape again from the Dial Up Connection panel MC hangs and needs to be closed through task manager.

DVD playback still broken, when inserting a disc, MC will "gather information and update view", then it just exits without any error message...  :'(

Have tried all possible settings, included hw support for playback. Filter list:

Dsound renderer
Cyberlink video/SP decoder
AC3Filter
DVD Navigator

Thanks for a great program.

Bug: Album Artist (auto)

Select an album, bring up the properties pane....

MC will have the Album Artist (auto) field filled with the automatic entry (multiple artists) and the artist field will state <varies>.

Any change to the album artist (auto) field is also saved to the [artist] field.

(thankfully, ctrl+z is working just fine ;))

Open MC, maximise it's state, minmise it to the tray, right click the icon, choose exit.

Open MC again, you will find it's forgotten it's maximised state and opens restored.

Please can this one be fixed, it's been around for a few weeks now, and while in that general area, any chance of MC winding up minimised to the tray when it's first opened?

Q. When would that be useful?
A. When you already know what's in "playing Now" and wish to continue listening to it. MC starts minimised in the tray, hit the play button on keyboard or taskbar and off we go :)

thanks for reading.

Marko - I'm not saying it's not a bug but question why you are trying to change Album Artist (auto).  In fact, perhaps another bug is the fact that you shouldn't be able to change it as it's a calculated field.  It is Album Artist that you should change not Album Artist (Auto).  Album Artist (Auto) will display the name you enter manually under Album Artist or, if Album Artist is blank it will display the artist name, or if there are multiple artist names on the album it will display Multiple Artists.  Sorry if you know all this.

DOH!

You are quite correct!!
You know why I fell into that? It's because.....
1. It's been ages since I did any tagging work and had a couple of gigs worth built up in my "incoming" folder
2. I was flitting between tagging mode and the properties pane to get the job done, and the pane I had showing was "album artist (auto)", so that's the fellow I edited in the properties field.

No need for "sorry's" :) I did know all this, and you know, even the fact that all the artists in the library were in the drop-down when I'd expect just the "album artists" didn't wake me up!!
Thanks for the nudge :)

like I said, it's been ages since I did any tagging work, been having fun playing with rhino's plugin and just listening to stuff, but I did notice that somewhere along the way my viewscheme column settings seem to have reverted to default settings, which may also have contributed to this oversight of mine.
I just left them as they were as I don't really want to keep re-doing them, thought I'd just wait for things to settle and then do it. Is this a bug for anyone else, or is it just me and my imagination?

Right...since its calculated i wonder why its editable. I have been this way when i accidentally change all the artist names when i only meant to change the Album Artist one. Same absent-mindedness as Marko..i suspect we are not the only ones who have encounterd this.

But then why not group by Album Artist instead of Album Artist(auto)...cos auto is faster :)

no way out of this one it seems...i think the way it is is best..just need to be extra careful.

IMO this is a bug.  The 'edit type' for Album Artist (Auto) should be 'cannot be edited' as it is for other calculated fields.

When setting Album Artist (auto), it works like this:

If there is an album artist, set it to the new value
Otherwise put the new value in artist

This allows you to use "Album Artist (auto)" as a replacement for the Artist and Album Artist columns.

Feel free to start another thread if you'd like to talk about this one some more.

Problems right-clicking in Explorer.

I use XP Pro set up with 2 user accounts.  When I go into the limited user account and right click any file I get the error message "Failed to load product info file" and explorer crashes.

This seems to be related to MC. See this;

Also clicking on a mpg file on the limited user account shows message "c\windows\sytem32\mediajukebox.exe not found"

Of course I know that MC does not run on limited user accounts but I shouldn't be getting the above error.  And I cannot right click the blasted file to change the file associations without crashing explorer!

Crashing explorer is a pretty serious bug in my view. This combined with the cd burning bug [reported earlier in this thread] leads me to think a reinstall is required.

Next question - how do I uninstall and reinstall MC without losing ANY settings [not just the library]?

If I double-click on a music file (like an MP3) in Windows Explorer then Media Center launches with a message that says "Please select file(s) to play".

I have this same problem.

More info (MBs remaining for upload) for portable device uploads (like MC 9.0 and MJ).
