Media Center 10.0.57 beta available
« on: January 30, 2004, 03:43:10 pm »

Media Center 10.0.57 beta is available.

This is a beta.  Avoid this if problems, changes, or crashes will upset you.  Do NOT try this if you aren't prepared for trouble.

Please keep a list of issues you find and report them with each build until we have addressed them.

The latest known stable version of 9.1 is here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

Please check the license and price thread before you download:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=17336

The latest beta of 10 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter10057.exe
PLEASE NOTE -- This build may not work correctly with handheld players that are not set to use WMDM -- the iPod, for example.  Please wait a few builds for this.
This build won't play images.  Should be fixed in the next.
10.0.57 (1/30/04)
1. Fixed: Customize Current View dialog's 'List Style' combobox didn't have a large enough drop box.
2. Fixed: Media Center wouldn't always work properly when maximized with auto-hide taskbars.
3. Fixed: Handheld tree items were not being properly sorted.
4. Fixed: The SDK function CMJFieldAutomation::GetName(...) was not working properly.
5. Fixed: Right view not updating when files were dragged onto CD burn action window.
6. Changed: New advanced ripping options for multi-rip, multi-encode processing.

MC crashes during multiple rips/encoding and when converting a batch of files from APE to MP3.

Import of Media files not working any longer.

Tried to import 110 *.jpg files using an mpl Playlist by right-clicking in Windows Explorer. Does not work.

Reverting back to 10.0.50 imports all files flawlessly. So I am stuck with 10.0.50.

er.. OK, I updated my system to the most recent version of XP with all patches and the multi-rip is working fine now (I also got rid of a SCSI card which may have been causing problems). I still need to test batch conversions. i'll test tonight.

The multi-rip funtionality is quite bitchin' by the way. Great, great job. For what it is worth, I don't really see much use for EAC anymore unless there is a serious problem with a CD. The multi-rip/encode combined with all the usual library integration is slick.

One thing, I'm assuming you realize that the numbers and progress bars during a multi-rip are a bit "funky".

Thanks for changing the masking of the field heads in the AW!

10.0.57 seems to have big problem for me:

After install, MC opens approximately 60% of full size. Minimize, maximize and full screen in upper right corner are totally missing. I can't drag any part of image to resize either.

First build in beta 10 series to mess up like this for me.
Reinstalled build 56 and all is well again.

Album art still does not show in the "Track Info" Playing Now screen when playing files via Media Server.  It does show up when you select "Cover Art" or "3D Visualizations," but not "Track Info."

Every time I stop a track and play another, I hear a little bit from the previous song just as the new one starts.  The same thing happens when I "seek" to a different spot in a track.  (This probably has something to do with the way songs are buffered.)

The genre "a capella" is being sorted under "c."

I think you can turn off the "ignore articles" feature for genre.

I see the same problem.  You can fix it by double-clicking on the title bar to drop back to non-maximized mode, then re-maximize the window...

BTW I just noticed that my 1.6Ghz Pentium M is being reported as a 96 MHz MMX processor by MC's System Info!  Right-clicking on My Computer and selecting properties displays the processor correctly, along with the current adaptive processor speed (598 MHz currently)...

I noticed that MC 10 is very slow when you right click - "clear Playing Now".  It's also jams the data base for a few seconds when changing formats from mp3 music to Mpg video files.  I haven't reported this hoping that it would be fixed with each build since the roll out of MC10.

This is new bug - it used to work fine in Pre- MC10 versions.

I'm sorry to say guys - I'm not too impressed with version 10 so far.  :'(

I have some asf files that don't play correctly in MC -- I can continue to see the first frame flashing, and the bottom part of the frame flashes continuously.  The same files play fine in Windows Media Player.

* When launching a TV Channel in Theatre Mode with Space Bar, it doesn't launch the selected TV Channel but takes the first one in the list.

* Could we have the recording options and DVD controls in Theatre Mode in a more obvious place then in Playing Now/Display Options/... ?
And/Or have MC Commands for these actions

Deleting Videos through Media Center is not working!

The video seems to delete, although the typical (3) options for delete do not appear. The deleted videos are still in the database, after exiting Media Center and restarting.

Theatre View still doesn't allow pausing of a playing video. When I click on the Play/Pause button, it restarts the video then pauses. Ctrl-P exhibits the same behavior as well.  The wife is getting frustrated so you guys are gonna have to help me out here.

Crash:

I switched from "Wave Out" to "DirectSound".  When I switched back to "Wave Out" and hit play, I get the following:

-----

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!

Program C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\Media Jukebox.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

-----

While the dialog appears, the music continues to play. Once I hit "Ok" to dismiss the dialog, the program quits and the music stops.

This error appears every time I hit "Play" while set back to "Wave Out", even after I restart the program.  If I switch to "DirectSound", it happens once more, and then when I restart, it no longer happens.  If I switch back to "Wave Out", it happens again.

This problems seems to be very reproducable.

If you have fade out on stop selected, it won't respond until the fade out is done when stopping playback.

Actually clearing Playing Now takes no time -- just tried with 1/2 million songs in PN and it was done in an instant.

Bug - Burning audio CD with ogg files

I can't burn a complete audio CD from VBR ogg files. MC hangs on analysing files....

All other formats [at least the ones I've tried] burn OK.

I did actually manage to burn a 2 ogg track CD when I was trying to find where the problem was. But I couldn't do burn an audio CD with a typical number of tracks for a CD.

DSP does not work with AAC files.

The ones I ripped were created with Nero.

When a track starts for the first time, it'll play for 2 seconds stop, then start from the beginning 2 seconds later.

This build also seems a little slower then then a few builds ago

I'm having this same problem.  I can't figure it out.  Some of my mp3 files play and crossfade fine and others do the "2 seconds thing" and don't mix.  It's weird???

I think it may have to do with the type of format prior to encoding to mpg.  MC seems to be able to crossfade between tracks burned from CD's,  however it can't seem to crossfade those with mpgs converted from wave files.  I use WaveLab.   The wave converted mpgs also crossfade well together, but not with the cda converted mpgs.

Hope this make sense......  ::)

Forgive me for being so dense, but I can only think that I am doing something fundamental stupid.

When I right click on a file and choose 'Play' all I ever seem to get is:
"The selected file is not in Playing Now. It can not be played in this way."

I cannot seem to make play actually play the selected files. The only thing I can do it add them to the play list, move to the play list, and then play them from there!

Now this seems to me to be so strange that it can only be my fault. I would have expected the action for 'Play' would be to replace the playing now with the selected file(s), and for them to play? Having been using the software since version 5, I cannot remember it being like this before, but then maybe....

Have I missed a setting some where?

JLee: Thanks for the suggestion.

I am currently using 10.0.53 (me and my little modem simply cannot keep up with the rate and increasing bloat of the updates).

I cannot see anything in the first message (top of screen) about a change to the 'play' function. Unfortunately, the top message has regressed back to showing only the modifications since the last version. I (and probably many others) would find it usefull to see more; or to have a link within that message to where there is a complete list).

Thanks,
Martin.

Minor Bug, but it causes MC10 to fail:

1. Launc MC10, don't select any songs (my is defaulted to show the Media Library)

2. Select Tools>Advanced Tools>Convert Format

MC10 freezes at this point on my machine.  The menu stays visable, but the conversion app never comes up.
