New shows on Network drive do not show up unless perform IMPORT
« on: December 10, 2015, 03:29:26 pm »

Doing majority of recording with WMC on a shared network drive.
Have the shared network drive imported into MC.

Shows that WMC recorded since last time I performed import in MC do not show up. Refresh button does not do anything. Have to perform import, then newly recorded shows appear in MC.

Set your auto-import options to watch the folder.  Tools > Options > Import.  Add the folder, then edit it to set file types to import.

Not working.

Running MC Server in background (icon in task bar).

Wake up machine running MC Server this morning. Wait 5 minutes. Run MC. Tv shows still look like I left it last night, no new shows and shows that were deleted are still there.

Verify machine has access to the network drive with windows explorer.
Press REFRESH in MC.
Nothing happens.

Manually run Auto-Import, then newly recorded shows populate.

I think this is your problem right here.  You have MC asleep while shows are being added and removed from the network drive.  So MC will never see the file system event that tells it "hey MC, go look for new stuff on the auto import disk."  Instead, you'd have to wait for MC to do a scan by itself.  Which I believe happens once every two hours.  I'm not 100% sure about that last part.  Also, not all NAS systems support file system events.

This is good news; it means that everything is set up so MC *can* see changes when you tell it to go look.

I postulate that you need to leave the MC server running all the time.  It *should* then see changes very soon after they happen.  To test this, add or remove some video files from your auto import directory while MC is running and see if MC picks up the changes. It should see the changes within a very short time.

Pretty much all "media player software" programs that I have used, perform an auto-import when you first open the program. eg: iTunes, WMP, WMC, Zoom Player, etc. Strange that MC waits for two hours??

That is what happens when a new installation of MC is first started, after a 45 second countdown, and a lot of people hate it.

A lot is happening when MC is first opened. Not only in starting the software, but usually, for most people, when they start MC they want to start watching programs, and don't want their HTPC slowed by background processes. Not that Auto-Import would actually slow MC much, usually.

Anyway, you are using a hybrid implementation of WMC and MC, so you should expect a few little quirks. As Brian suggests, if you leave MC's Media Server running, all the files will be there waiting for you. That is the intended way to use MC, I believe.
