Uploading tracks infos to YADB.
Which infos are uploaded?
All the tags ?
Or only 'the view" i set in the right window?
I use Genres to a total different goal that Genre.
Means that ,if uploaded ,people would get quite weird infos. Kind of MichelFTP- cddad ect ect.
I use genre for compatibility with other players , so i do not use any special field , and ,anyway I never use Genre.

Uploading riped lps to cd , NEVER out on cd , infos to YADB.

Is this a problem ?
Sure i may be the only one using this infos.
But ,if all infos served as they have to be ,i do not think that it can mess YADB

Hi Zevele,

I'm pretty sure all of the tags are uploaded. Genre is always uploaded, there's no way to say "upload everything but genre".

Sure, upload your homemade CDs, no problem.

I will move genre to another field and reimport it after upload.
By the way any tip about how many songs at once?

I have around 50.000 to upload . Well more or less.

No problem on the number of songs: do whatever is convenient for you. Make it big enough you don't have to do too many groups, and small enough so that if something goes wrong, you don't spend a lot of time resubmitting.

Question about uploading: does YADB ignore an uploaded CD if it already exists in the database, or does it set up a duplicate? Id be happy to upload my paltry 2000-odd files, but I dont see the point of everyone uploading 000's of files if we get lots of duplicates that I have to go through in my email later.

I have nearly 40000 tracks (mainly audio). I did not realise that you could update in bulk.

I would be quite happy to do so for you, is it simple?

Do CD's / Albums / Tracks / Singles that already exist in Yadb get ignored?

Have just tried 1 album - Evanescense "Fallen" - seems to be ok, but how do i know if it was successful or not?

yes, but the digital finger print database is smaller than the Album database.

when you get cd's and have all the tracks filled in then you can then submit them back to the digital fingerprint database.

they do not work the same way

the digital finger print areads the audio file and comes up with a finger print due to the data in the file and then submits that to the database.

the cd database goes off of the CD ID and what track on the cd.

it would be nice if J river woul alow users to ID the cd's as normal then acan the cd and submit it back as a digital finger print.

this I was told was a good Idea abut 6 months ago but have not seen it yet as an option..

Good news. Id confused CDs and individual tracks in my previous post - I meant tracks not CDs - King Sparta explained it properly. As zevele said firstly Im hoping that Artist/Album/Track Name/etc takes precedence over Genre in duplicates finding, as I find defining genre impossible, but Ill go ahead and submit my library...

I think that is my next project

since there is about 600,000 cd's in freedb, i can pull out the artist name, and genre.

and count them up so lets say

Beatles was in ther 5 times

Beatles - Rock
Beatles - Jazz
Beatles - Rock
Beatles - Pop
Beatles - Rock

Count up the genres and the one with the most in this case "Rock" wins and so when you do a genre lookup it would then set Beatles To "Rock"

But what if the tracks that already exist contain less information (or wrong information, actually) than the ones that I'm trying to submit. Say, if the track already in YADB doesn't have the date, and mine does? Will mine still be rejected?

I think if the info is identicle it will not accept a new one.

I have ripped a few discs and it asked me to choose between 2 or 3 entries...

The only problem with that is it doesn't allow yo to go back and choose the other...

yes

if the finger print is the same all data will be rejected if the finger print is onfile

John,

Just an idea for YADB,

You said it just ignores info if it's submitted and already there. Wouldn't it make the DB a LOT more accurate if it instead just takes duplicates of the data and then when someone makes a request it just does what king mentioned here - uses whichever one occurs the most often.

That way it'd rule out the problems caused by people submitting wrong info and being the first ones to do so.
The more people submitted the more accurate the DB would get without any maintenance work?

Genre is a plague.
ALL the players offer plain stupid categorys

And most of the people put plain stupid caregorys.

Beside it ,even ,if like me and many others ,you are not stupid ............, your feeling ,taste ,mind make you put a band in a genre you feel accurate ..but according to your taste.
To me Beatles are pop music and NOT rock
To others they are rock.

So ,today ,i want to start a popular uprising AGAINTS genre in the tags.

If JRiver ,i would try to find a way to block genre and years to be uploaded.

Years is not better . Most of the time you get the year of issue on cd.And for a lot of music reissue.

Look quite funny to have a Sinatra album from 2003 , an Hendrix from 2002...

Beside it ,if you try to discover ,understand new music for you , you will listening to an 2003 album ,who ,in fact is from 1968.
Not understanding why this record is so important or a landmark according to what you heard about it.

Like thinking Faulkner wrote this book in 2003 ,because it is what write on the back of the book
'Zevele PressBooks 2003'

But ,computer is ,for a large part sub-junk culture who makes the Bronx look like Harvard....

you're right, taggin genres is like hell. I've done everything, including years for all my mp3s, but generes are still on hold (for more than two years now).
We probably need some kind of auto-genre tagging for MC.
I have around 15k files here that I won't submit to yadb till I fixed genres. Unfortunatley this is going to take quite some time.....

You do not need to have genre to upload to YADB.

ALL the tracks i upload do not have genre or year.

If you get info for a track from YADB ,you would be more than happy to get Artist - Album- Track name- Track number.

The YADB tracks data base may be a very large one if everyone is uploading tracks infos to it.
I did uploaded quitte a large number few months ago.
And have another 30.000/40.000 to upload

Hiya John

Just wondering, whats to stop the initial data being submitted being bad data and causing this to begin with? Surely using the most occuring values submitted would in fact prevent this by meaning that anyone submitting dodgy data would not have their information returned even if it was the first submitted as it was the least commonly occuring.

Do you guys check the data (I wouldn't imagine you would as that would be a HUGE task)?

I'm not argueing, just curious.

Here how i see things-- but maybe i'am wrong-

If you really want to waste YADB tracks data base ,you have only the 30 days free trial.

Most - let say ALL- who upload tracks infos, do it to help and for themself.

I do not think there is that much wrong infos being uploaded.

Of cause ,it can happens- I do my best to upload only full verified tags infos.
Now ,speaking about thousands and thousands tracks , maybe i mixed some Genre 11 [ tags 100% good] with some Genre 2 [ tags no good] instead of genre 22 [ no art sleeve].

If yes ,it can be one or two hundreds songs againts many many thousands with good infos.

I do not see how they can check the data ,who is hudge and changing 24/24 a day

For those following this thread, you can see the progress of the track database on this page:

Right now it says:
"In addition to the CD's, there are now 324,161 individual tracks identified by JRiver Audio Fingerprinting."

That's up from around 200,000 a month ago.

To help fill the database, select audio tracks that are properly tagged and then right click on them, choose Library Tools, then Submit track info to YADB.

You won't see the number of tracks change on the stats page until the stats are updated (6 minutes after each hour).

Does the digital fingerprint of each trach depend on the bitrate and format of the song? Would a song encoded at 160kbs in MP3 format have the same fingerprint as one recorded at 192... or in WMA?

Also, are there any plans to offer users a display of what YADB suggests before accepting those changes?

Nothing, except the initial data is already there and mostly good. It's easier to remove bogus info that has been added than to recover good data from corrupted data.

Thanks all for the additions.

Format/bitrate should not affect the recognition very much (drastically different compressions may not be recognized as the same due to the difference in sound quality).

Ah fair enough

I was just curious, trying to learn as much as possible about the way different companies do stuff and why so I can learn for extra knowledge - idle mind and all.

I'm still analysing my files before I upload to YADB (I presume I have to do this first so it can identify them).

One thing I noticed - I left it doing 2000 last night and came back and it had stopped because it found bad mp3's - cant it just ignore them and move on?
Otherwise every time I leave it analysing them, if there are bad ones early on it's going to mean that none or few get analysed?

Analysing== checking for the quality of the mp3 with programs like MP3Utility or MP3Tester ?

So you found that if the mp3 of bad quality ,you cannot upload it to YADB ?

I never throught of it. And let say ,i'am lucky because i uploaded TONS of tracks without any problem.

Well i had a problem with one built months ago ,but they fixed it.

you don't need to use the analyze option in mc9 prior to submiting to YADB that has nothing to do with the fingerprinting. That info is not saved to the fingerprint database.
