IdPi -- Build a JRiver Id for about $90
« on: August 30, 2016, 01:42:35 pm »

The Id Pi on microSD is available for order now.

There are other Id options, including the IdPi Fully Baked, a Raspberry Pi that is ready to run.  It includes MC and a license.

It hasn't been updated, but it's stable.  We plan to update in a couple of months.

It has been stated on here before that if you upgrade to V21 or V22 you must do so on all your systems as they are not backwards compatible.
Does that mean the Id will only work with other systems if they are V20?

Yeah, It won't connect to my V22 library but it does act as a dlna renderer from my V22 server. It also works with JRemote OK.

MC22 can load an MC20 library, but not the other way around.

[Edit: The Id now uses MC22 and will work with MC22 or MC23.]

DLNA will work between MC20 and MC22, in either direction.

Has JRiver ever looked into using Odroid C2 for Id? ARM Cortex A53 1.5GHz Quad Core, Mali-450 GPU, HDMI 2.0 4K/60Hz, Gig Ethernet, H.265 4K/60fps, H.264 4K/30fps, 2GB DDR3 SDRAM, eMMC5.0 Flash Storage, UHS-1 MicroSD, IR Receiver, RPi footprint & layout very close to model 3. Very close in price to RPi.
Yes. IIRC it doesn't do 24 bit color X-Server, a requirement for MC.

Edit- Wanted to know about using this to play multichannel files but see in another thread now that it does not.

Shipping now.

All new IdPi's licenses are "Media Center Id" which means the version of Media Center will track our current version without the library location being changed.

Thanks Bob, I will order the new one soon!

When can I update my existing IdPi to "Media Center Pi"? It's currently running MC22 and the last version of Engen.

We haven't decided on an upgrade path yet, the changes are rather extensive, new MC, kernel, etc.  Probably not an OTA upgrade.

Thanks Bob. I'll go ahead and order an upgraded version.

Just to be clear, any Id (IdPi and IdNuc) shipping now will upgrade to future current versions OTA, provided I have a licensed Id and purchase a MC Master license for future versions (23, 24, etc)?

Yes, the future OTA upgrades to the Id MC will tag along with the MC version.

So I'm just mildly confused.....I purchased my Id Pi 3 weeks ago. The versions listed in Panel's settings page show MC 23.0.84 and Id 22.0.81. My last update was earlier this week. Are these the latest? How do I track Panel's version number?

Thank you!

Panel doesn't have a version number.  It's part of MC.

And those are the current version of MC and the Id firmware.

Only MC stable is used for Id updates.

I reset my IdPi to default settings and now the GUI is asking me to purchase a license ... or restore.  Did I get a key with the Pi SD card?  I can't remember.  If so, I'll have to dig around to find it.

Thanks.

I just used the Restore Page to re-send your licenses.

Use the text menu to enter it.  Don't use MC.

Occasionally I accidentally close the GUI window when using my IDPI (version 22.0.113).  Typing "1" to restore the GUI from the command text menu always reboots my IDPI.  Is this a bug or by design?  Seems that before this version only "98" command would reboot.

That just sets the mode to GUI instead of text or headless.

MC re-starts automatically after about a minute.  You don't have to do anything.

Right.  So the reboot is normal behavior then.  I think "1" used to simply return the GUI display.  Thanks.

I've been using my IDPI as an audio server (because leaving it on 24x7 uses less power than my PC... I assume). I've tried remote WOL on my PC when playing audio outside of my network... but WOL has proved to be hit and miss.

Anyway I tried Panel today on the IDPI (both inside and outside of network).  I get connected, but then it errors out on play.  Before further troubleshooting I thought I'd ask if Panel runs (or will run on an IDPI server in the future).  I noticed the "Panel" forum thread specifies you need MC23.  Is the new Panel (or MC23) in the works for IDPI?

I read above (in this tread) that MC23 is shipping now for the IDPI.  I just ran "check for updates" and it remains at 22.0.113.  How can I obtain MC23 for my IDPI?  Thanks...

Bump...
If you send your MediaCenter IdPi card back we'll upgrade it to the MediaCenter Id version for $20.

OK, I guess I understand the fee if the media has be manually created and delivered... but I think I'll abandon the idea of using the PI as an audio server.

Let me ask though.... I just bought the upgrade to Windows MC24.  Perhaps I should have bought the Master License upgrade.  Does the Master cover the ID at all, or are the ID and IDPI outliers (license-wise)?

The Id and IdPi are outliers since their licenses are with the hardware so the version moves up independently of the Windows/Mac/Linux MC version.

Interesting view. I'm planning the exact opposite because the Pi has such a low power demand. Its capital cost couldn't be cheaper. And the design philosophy is aimed at a good mix of capability and KISS. On paper it reads as an ideal audio server or renderer to me.

I agree that the Pi is an ideal audio server.  I've been using it that way for several months.  The reason I've decided to abandon that approach is I'd have to buy a new license for it to go beyond version 22... ( and get the new Panel, etc.).  So right now I'm back to a PC server.  If Panel works out to be a viable remote player for Android... I may decide to go ahead and buy v23 for the Pi.
