I applied the 22.0.74 update and while I was looking at my library I noticed it said "Done saving tag changes" at the bottom of the screen. I thought that might have been the screen state before the update, but then I saw it say "Updating 2 tags" (or whatever the active update message is, I can't remember the exact wording) before it once again returned to "Done saving tag changes". I wasn't playing anything, or making any tag edits. What automatic tag edits could the update have caused?

When I read about that bug I was confused because Psychadelic (or Psychedelic) doesn't even appear in my list of available genres. And I certainly don't have anything tagged that way.

there has been a lot of recent changes to accents and a few special characters.  all "..." are changed to the ASCII ellipsis character, that is a good possibility for 2 tracks being changed maybe?

My library has accented characters and some "...", so perhaps that's what was happening.

Just installed 22.0.75 and once again saw it make some tag updates.

I had a similar experience over the last two builds with many tags updating and even some files being re-imported and import date was updated without any changes being made to the files that I could see.

I wonder if this is the cause of my lost relational fields that I reported recently?  Why is MC updating tags during updates?  And if it is, it needs to do a better job, it seems, of protecting existing data!

No matter what the cause is We need to know what's going on when MC is about to modify tags for more than a hundred files on its own.
More info please or some sort of warning. (As I'm watching MC saving 1000+ tag changes for no apparent reason)

Just upgraded to 22.0.76 and got a 'Done saving tag changes' message after a second or two of MC starting. So that's changing something too.

We haven't been able to duplicate it here yet though.

Can someone supply a before  (from backups) and after library and if possible one of the files that's had it's tag changed? (sort by modification date in windows?).

In my case it did something to about 1000 pictures or so...  I could tell by doing a freefile sync with my other PC and only picture files got changed.  Looking at the metadata on both versions in Photoshop Element the only thing I could see different was an IPTC Tag was created with an "Original Date" file.

Unfortunately I overwrote the pics with a backup from this other PC drive.  I then re-imported and re-updated and it didn't tag anything.  I also updated the library from tags to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I wish we had some sort of logs being created just like when you run an import manually with a bit more details as to what files get tagged.  OR If we could show the file name along with the Saving Tag message that would be sufficient!
We don't really need to know which tags get changed we can figure this out after but if we know which files get changed that would be very handy!

AND a way to stop it from tagging would be required too.

If I can reproduce I will definitely send you something Bob.

Are you certain the field that was added was "Original Date" ??
I don't see that string anywhere in MC's source code.

It had something to do with the date but not sure how it was exactly laid out.

That could be because you had already installed 22.0.74 on that machine and the tags have already been updated so 22.0.77 had nothing to update.

That sounds possible to me.
I'd like to hear more about that Date tag and if others seem to find that it was only images being tagged...

Just upgraded my main MC Library from 22.0.65 to 22.0.77. No evidence that any tags were updated (which is the expected behaviour)
