JRiver Cloudplay -- Lossless Streaming
« on: October 27, 2019, 07:17:20 am »

Cloudplay is JRiver's lossless streaming service.

The wiki also has a Cloudplay topic

Imagine a limitless giga-library of lossless audio files that you can play anywhere.  That's where JRiver Cloudplay is going.

Upload your own files as playlists
They are uploaded to our server at Amazon S3 whose reliability is excellent.  Playlists should be mixed content, not single albums or single artists.

Play these playlists anywhere
Play Doctor can also combine these files with your local files.  Other users can do the same.
Cloudplay Meets Play Doctor

Radio JRiver uses these new files
Radio programming is built from the files.

Playback will work from a browser
Coming soon.

High Quality and Legal
All streaming is lossless.  JRiver pays the licensing fees.

Listener Supported
Radio JRiver and Cloudplay are Listener Supported.  Thanks for your consideration.  Give what you can.  Your support makes it work.

Do I have to read this as Cloudplay has 406 users? Is that a joke or true? If true I would drop the whole effort. I still do not get the idea of cloudplay in this day and age of Tidal, Qobuz and even Amazon HD. I am far more interested in the possibility of having an easy mounting of cloud-services drives (without the need to sync the cloud drive to the computer or use third party software) like Dropbox and facilitate users to play their own music in the format they want (including DSD) where ever they are. I want to use that for albums which are not available in streaming services (or not in the right format like DSD; for me >25% of total).

P.S. In my view OneDrive is useless for HD music due to its character-policy which kills most of my file naming convention. Dropbox does not have that problem.

Did you try it?

The library of user tracks also feeds the Radio JRiver stations.

It's small, but it has quadrupled in size in the last six months.

It's completely lossless.  It works with Play Doctor, so you can combine Cloudplay files with files from your library.

JRiver for Android can now play Cloudplay files to another machine.

As an example, I'm using an Android Phone to play a Cloudplay playlist to a JRiver Id.

Any word on multi channel audio? Thought that was on the horizon, for whatever reason my asking keeps being ignored. Is it being held to add to 26?

Cloudplay is a terrific feature:  it is a great way to listen to high quality music.

There are so many playlists.  Is there a way to search for playlists that contain a specific artist, rather than looking at them one playlist at a time?

Thank you in advance...

Thanks.  You can use the search to search for a specific artist.   You'll see a view that is limited to users who have that artist in a playlist.

Is there a way you can add/subtract/edit a playlist without uploading the whole playlist again?

Sometimes it tells me the track already exists and sometimes not.  For instance if I want to replace a track that has a higher resolution or add 1 track, but don't want to go through the hassle of doing the whole thing again.  The files are already there.

When you upload a playlist a second time, MC will skip tracks that have already been uploaded.

Not a good idea.  The playlists should be mixed, not single artists or single albums, in order to be compliant with streaming radio rules.

When you upload a playlist a second time, MC will skip tracks that have already been uploaded.

A quick question on a slightly related topic...

Sometimes, the playlists i have created will have the same song on one or two or three playlists.

Does that work with CloudPlay, i.e., can I have the same song on multiple playlists?

btw, I uploaded my first playlist yesterday, an assortment of some vinyl that I had digitized over the years.  The upload process went quite smoothly (kudos!), though I would have liked a faster upload speed from my ISP for that 500MB Pink Floyd tune.  :)

I just finished the upload of another playlist.

This one, "1980's EP Singles (mostly 'new wave', mostly vinyl)" has a few of the EP singles I've accumulated from the "new wave" era of the early-ish 1980's.

I have run into a limit on playlists and can't upload any more (moved from PM).

After you graciously upped limit, still can't upload.  Have restarted MC26 and rebooted computer.  No change in being blocked (am actually trying to update a playlist with higher resolution track I have acquired).

Get this message: "The tracks in this playlist take up 1.5 GB of space. which would put you over the limit.  You are using 124 GB in the cloud and the maximum is 125 GB.

So, if I buy JRiver for Android for $9.99 and use on my Galaxy S10... can I then access Cloudplay to take advantage of the streaming options available wherever I go?  If so, I assume then I could use the other streaming options as well?

Cloudplay is terrific...thanks for bringing it to us.  Since there are so many playlists out there, the search function is becoming more important by the day...

Is there a way to search for high res tracks, something like 96kHz or higher?

Thank you in advance...

As someone with lots of DSD files (multichannel and stereo) to offer, I'd love it if instead of complaining of invalid format it simply did the conversion to FLAC on the fly (with configurable sample rate) before uploading each track and delete it after upload.

Cheers,

Try making the player window full screen.  There's a bug that prevents the menu from showing up if the screen is too small.

Screen resolution may also affect it.

I use it in full screen. I tried going into the shortcut properties and clicking disable display scaling on high dpi and even tried to change my screen resolution to 1920 x 1080. No luck. Does anybody have any other suggestions?

I don't know what the problem could be.  What OS are you using?

Try changing the type size in your browser.  You can position your cursor in the Cloudplay screen and do ctrl + and ctrl -  (plus and minus) to change it.

I'm on windows 7. I tried doing as you suggested but all that did was change the volume up and down.

One thing I have found with screen size issues is pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL  buttons simultaneously.  When the screen changes select "Task Manager".  When the "Task Manager" box comes up, just close it with the "X" at the top right corner.  My screens always return to correct size after this.

I've also used this when in Cloudplay and selections become inactive.  Works for both.  I have messed with all sorts of screen resolution and NVidia setting to no avail, but this work-around works.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried this and it didn't work either. The cloud play menu just doesn't exist. I tried checking for an update and it says it's the latest version.
