Playback Starting When Computer Wakes From Sleep
« on: February 08, 2021, 09:23:21 pm »

Lately, playback has been automatically starting whenever my computer wakes up.  Only place I can think of configuring this type behavior is in Options/startup/ Startup Actions / Start Playing Current Playlist.

I do not have this option selected.

Is there a setting anywhere else that could cause this behavior?

This is JRiver 27.0.61, but I'm pretty sure I've had this behavior for last few builds.

Anyone else notice this?

Thanks

I suspect you're pressing the space bar to wake up the computer. Windows passes the wake-up key to the application that has focus, so if it's MC the space bar will start playback. Always use the shift key to wake up the computer.

I'll have to pay closer attention as when I wake computer something is different.... But computer always wakes to the password / lock screen.  Last thing I always do when waking is to click on OK to complete wake of computer.

Are you saying that computer queues up the keyboard press and passes that on to the app after sign-on is completed?

In MC settings, look at what you have set for startup.

No, I don't think Windows queues the keystroke like that. Must be something else.

Silly question: was it playing before the PC went to sleep? I just tested, and if that's the case MC will resume playback on wakeup.

Maybe there's some flag that got stuck once in that state, and now it's always resuming on wakeup... try starting a song, putting your PC to sleep, wakeup&login (MC should resume playing), then stop the song. Maybe this clears that flag.

JimH, do you know how MC knows it was playing before Sleep?

After it happened the first time I thought I probably just forgot to click stop button.  Then after it happened on multiple occasions I started looking for  a JRiver configuration that might have changed.  So, I found the startup option to begin playback, but it was not selected.  Are there any other options I should look at?

I *think* I do same exact thing waking computer and not even sure what I could be doing differently.  After entering password not much else to do but click on the button to sign in.

Good news is that last few times it has remained stopped, so not sure what's going on.  Maybe I just got into bad habit of not stopping playback without realizing it.  I'll have to pay closer attention.

Just in case, I turn volume down after listening session so there are no surprises next time I wake computer up.  Gave me quite a scare first time when music blasted on unexpectedly.
