Request for beta testers
« on: March 27, 2003, 04:06:55 am »

No more requests, please.  This version is going to be released soon, so we need to concentrate on bugs.

Thanks for your understanding.  There will be another version.

Wahoo - Should be cool.

You've done a great job on 9 - love where it is.

Can I be a beta tester? Pretty please :)

Lol. For v10 - dont forget - I want voice activation and coffee making as standard.
Crumpets are welcomed too :)

I hear you but I was thinking.

you know the problem people have with installing MC or plugins sometimes.

Could it be possible that MC9 could check for this and then give the user an option to delete the files like the "Delete Files" under IE Internet Options?

It just might help, since this fixed 3 users problem yesterday alone.

That's too bad. The one thing keeping MC9 from being my all in one is lack of long file name burning. For organizational and archiving purposes, plus my old car MP3 player uses them instead of tags. Oy. :-/

I still love MC though.

Here's to the jet propelled, dilithium crytstal cloaked version of MC10!

Rock on,

What about features that we were told would make it, but haven't shown up yet? Are they still planned?

For instance... graphical ratings.

And there were a couple of mini-me requests I had made months ago and was told that they would be incorporated.

I also hope this doesn't mean an end to development in certain areas, like the search wizard. It feels very much like a work in progress at the moment (although closer to done than not).

Oh boy, Chico.   We could write a book on TiVo.

www.tivo.com will tell you a lot, but it's a PC that looks like a stereo component.  It runs Linux on a Mips chip (I think).  It has a big disk drive and MPeg2 hardware encoding, so it can record TV programs and play them back, just like a VCR.  But it is much better than a VCR.

You can watch live TV, pause it, go make yourself a sandwich, come back and resume.  You can fast forward through commercials.  You can set it up to record Seinfeld whenever it comes on.

They're only sold in the U.S. now, I think.  They were sold in the UK for a while.  TiVo has 600,000 subscribers now.

And MC will talk to it, but don't tell anyone yet.

So MC goes out the door with half finished features.

Wonderful. Glad I rushed out to buy it. If had known the search functions were going to be crippled I might have thought twice about it.

Honestly, the search feature was better before the wizard was introduced. At least then it was consistent. It was just hard to use. Now it's a mess. Some of it works great with the wizard, other parts don't work with the wizard at all, and still other parts are impossible to use.

You may as well rip out any date related search function. MC's reputation would benefit by doing so, since, as has been pointed out numerous times, no sane human being can possibly know when "1034914551" was. And like Nila has pointed out on several occasions, every file receives it's own equally useless Imported "date", thus making it pointless to even bother to search by Import Date even if you DID know what "1034914551" meant.

And the Filename wizard... tell me how I'm supposed to differentiate between "E:\Documents\My Music\Complete Albu..." and "E:\Documents\My Music\Complete Albu...". I've got 2475 of these cluttering the Filename Search "Wizard".

I don't blame you for not taking any new features on. But at least finish the ones that are there. Sorry if I seem a bit peeved about this. I think you guys do an outstanding job. I really do.

There's a workaround for this one: rename your files c:\1.mp3, c:\2.mp3, etc.

If we renanamed it "Anti-Wizard" or "Not-So-Wizard" or "Bad-Monkey-Wizard" or "We-Wish-This-Was-A-Wizard", would that make anything better?

You're right. Sorry I "flipped out" just then. Just stressed, I guess. Plus they screwed up my burrito tonight. I hate it when take out places do that.

But honestly, I've been kind of feeling like my bug list hasn't been addressed too much. I know I haven't been posting it over and over and over like I did with version 8, but there are just some bugs on there that have been there for a really long time. I understand how busy you guys must be, so it hasn't really bothered me, but then when I read that most of the bugs I'd been reporting were going to be left in... between that and a screwed up burrito, my poor little mind went into overload.

Ok... back to laid back Doof, now. I promise.

Hello

Been wanting my .mp2 thumbnail images back for a while now.

Have tons of .mp2 on disk.

The question mark does not make it in Hairstyle.

Sent a couple thousand ft. of 8mm and super 8 off to be converted to DV and then Ill convert the DV to .mp2 on the hard drive.

Why .mp2, well ATI does one excellent job on "Quality".

LOL.

You go Doof :)
Your right of course, my brain was getting a little worn out doing multiplications to the second of all the dates etc I wanted then working out the difference in seconds between now and 1970 or whenever it was :)

It was keeping my maths skills sharp though.
Hopefully the 'imported date' will be implemented somewhat like Rhino's little calendar in AV2 for setting the 'new' date. You cant beat a calendar for working out dates :)

There are also a few other bugs in the wizard as well that drive me crazy so I feel where your coming from :)

On the whole thou, v9 is Great. The new right click menu in all honesty makes the biggest difference to my daily use of MJ out of all the feature changes. Lame I know but it's such an integral part for daily use. :)

It's hard to say exactly what will happen with a new version of MJ.  We will probably release a limited version of MC as the new MJ, but it's impossible to say exactly when or what it will be.

What about features that we were told would make it, but haven't shown up yet? Are they still planned?

I have asked for common TV Hotkeys on various occasions.

Matt said that common TV Hotkey controls would be in the next version or two.  That was 4 versions ago.

Are they still planned?

I really want that.  Hotkeys were one of the things that still makes the ATI TV outstanding over MC9.

ATI uses the TAB key to cycle through things such as...
* Volume.
* Brightness.
* Contrast.
* Gamma.
* Hue.
* Saturation.

It works simply wonderfully...
* Left hand on the TAB key.
* Right on the arrow keys to change the various levels.

No mouse required!

This is a "MUST HAVE" for me before I will consider MC9 "the best of breed".

Buried in all these messages was the comment, "MC will talk to TIVO".  That'd be COOL!  I'm looking forward to watching that development unfold.

For a future version of MC, I agree that the searching wizard could be made simpler and more intuitive.

Forget work with Tivo, how about MC becomes Tivo.

My new HDTV set is equipped with outgoing 1394. Since Tivo really is just another CPU in a stereo looking box (DVD players, etc) how about functions for MC to record\pb\schedule data through 1394? Now we're talking (MC12 though?)

What kind of set?  Sony?  Samsung?

I've thought that Firewire (IEEE1394) would show up in TV's, but I believe it's for networking devices together.  It might be possible to receive the signal if the TV will send it, but the protocol could be proprietary.

TiVo has announced Home Media Option ( http://www.tivo.com/4.9.asp ) for Series 2 machines.  Versions of MC's Media Server in the last week or so can support it, but tonight's build should be the first to provide the needed setup options.

TiVo has said they will ship this option "in April".  We'll be ready when they are.

It's a Mitsubishi with built in ATSC tuner and three 1394 ports as well as DVI (which is limited because of copyright security). The 1394 ports are two-way (unlike the RCA's) and my intention has always been to create my own Tivo system. I have a 100gig FW drive that can hold around 6-7 hours of DVD quality content. Have been testing, looks very promising, but a decent SW interface (and one that can take advantage of Havi) is badly needed. My interface currently is clunky, as I am stuck using my high-end video editing software as record and playback machine.
