Won't play higher than 48k [Solved]
« on: August 17, 2024, 10:53:19 am »

My copy of JRiver all of a sudden won't play files at sample rates higher than 48K. Device settings are set like they always have been. The issue is the same on my Chord or Grace Design DAC and all of the sample rate frequencies are set to "no change". Am I missing sometthing? I've been with JRiver since v19, so thought I knew all of the various corners of JRiver. I just upgraded to the latest version 32, hoping something would get reset, but the issue remains. Many thanks

Have you tried rebooting the PC and equipment?

Yes, many times. I'm actually an audio professional so don't often have issues getting equipment to communicate. Thanks for the insight.

Could it be a shared/exclusive mode issue?

Would this be an issue if I'm just playing WAV files from a hard drive?

So far I've tried:

New USB port
New USB cable
Reinstalled JRiver 31
Upgrated and installed JRiver 32
Reinstalled both USB drivers for Chord Hugo and Grace M908

Many thanks,

You're using ASIO.  It's telling you that's what the device allows when using that audio driver.

What happens when you use WASAPI? Do you have Exclusive mode set?

Thank you for you input. I get the same results using ASIO or WASAPI. I am in exclusive mode.

The Grace driver is capable of up to 192k and the Chord up to 384. Both have worked properly with JRiver for years.

fyi - I have not had any trouble with my Chord Qutest on MC 33 using Chord Asio driver v 1.05. Just tried it at 24/192 and it was fine.   I don't have access to my Hugo currently, but if the Qutest works then I presume the Hugo should also. Not sure what your problem is.

Different connections may have different capabilities.

Same for drivers.

Specs aren't always reliable.

The Hugo has 2 usb inputs. Did you inadvertently connect to the SD one? Grasping at straws.

Thank you for thinking about this. I always use the HD port, the one in the same indentation as the switch. I work with a lot of DSD, so it's always plugged that way.

Still thinking about anything it could be. I'm leaning towards a Windows 10 issue.

Try another port.

That's what I expected.

I am using MC 33 on Windows 10 and, as I said, it is OK with high res and DSD with the ASIO driver on my Qutest. So, it is not a general MC on Windows 10 issue.

Thank you for all of the help and suggestions. I figured it out, finally. I had the output of the Grace Design driver set to play 24 tracks, which didn't allow for playback at higher than 48k.

FYI, during all of my troubleshooting I loaded a few of the competing media players. JRiver was the best sounding, by far!
Cheers,
