Playing Now Popup skin "Play"
« on: September 29, 2024, 02:24:25 am »

Note: For a trouble-free experience with this skin, you must be using MC 33.0.32 or higher

Play
This skin has no dynamic components at all. The popup will look this way at all times, regardless of the current standard view skin. It uses the MC logo with additional visual feedback on the previous, current and next tracks, along with access to the playlist and volume controls.
Unfortunately, due to the different ways different platforms handle font sizes, this skin will not display correctly on the Mac. I do not know if it will work on Linux. Feedback here would be very much appreciated. Feedback from EnglishTiger regarding Mac handling of this skin can be read here

Play has been produced on a screen using a 1920 x 1200 resolution @ 100% on Windows 10 Pro. Feedback from users on other platforms and/or resolutions, good or bad, is especially appreciated.

For the curious, the initial release and testing thread can be found here.

The attached archive contains an mjp file. Extract and double click this mjp file. MC will automatically download and install the skin.

Thank you, and enjoy :)

Update 13/10/2024:
Added "Pressed" state images for the volume up/down, and minimize/maximize buttons.

Update 20/10/2024:
The "Mute" button now updates to correctly reflect the muted or unmuted state of the volume.
Added some additional info to the tracks shown when clicking the playlist button.

----------

Font sizes should be fixed from MC33.0.30 for Mac. This returns a little more control over the presentation of the popup to the skin creator, and also means that this should now present correctly for Mac users.
Have any Linux users tried these skins? Are they presenting as shown in the example in the first post?

Here is the skin with custom Mac values.  I have included a screenshot to see what it looks like in case you still want tweaks.

Thanks for that, I know time is precious.

That looks pretty good, right? :)

One thing that caught my eye was, that the three 'stats' lines are being truncated. I also wondered what the Helvetica font may look like on Windows, so modded the mod, and also got the truncation. I kicked the font size down from 12 to 11 and that took care of it here. Does going down one size work on the Mac? ie., all there and legible?

Odd thing... when I moved the size down, "7's" display smaller than everything else. Any idea why?

If going down a size works on the Mac, I can make the required edits here, and if not, I could make the popup a few pixels wider, and/or add a replicating tooltip.

Marko - this is what the "out of the box" play-mod looks like on the 24" screen attached to the Mac-Mini

Interesting. Thanks for that. Thoughts and questions...

The current track info is word wrapping, previous and next are not. Needs a touch more height, right? but how much more? Looking at it, it feels like all three 'stats' lines could be made shorter in height/smaller font size... would three or four pixels be enough?

You're not getting truncation on the stats lines, cncb is though... what affects that? Is it Mac variation specific?
The current track stats line is not truncating, but should as it doesn't all fit.

The rating stars, and, I'm sure, the show/hide arrows, appear to have an unintended white halo. Is that a Mac thing or do I need to revisit the images? There's no halo present here on Windows 10.

Any thoughts regarding the smaller sevens?

Yeah, that's messy. :(

Marko it looks like the halo around the stars could be a PNP problem I switched to using the Black on Black skin on the mac where the stars are very visible in the Playerbar Window and the list under the display panel. But when I used one of MJ's PNP skins that use the Std. View Skin Colours the Stars were almost invisible due to a lack of contrast between the stars and the background they are sitting on.

I thought only the current track wrapped by design.  I will tweak it for the other wrapping.

I will look into the "halo" thing.

This time I tried to adjust just the font sizes.  I'm not sure if the text is too small but it seems similar to Windows.

Marko/CNCB

I tried the latest playlist_mod main.xml on the Mac mini and got what is showing in Image 1

Since the Helvetica Font is not one supplied with Windows I switched the font the Mac is using in the main.xml to Verdana, a font that is supplied with both operating systems and got what is showing in Image 3.

Since I do have the Segeo UI Font installed on my Mac mini I created a variation of CNCB's main.xml that did not have any <Mac......> instructions in it and got what is showing in Image 3

Which raises the inevitable question - Why does the word-wrap work when the main.xml contains <Mac....> instructions but doesn't work when they are not present???

The <Mac> elements also reduce the font size such that wrapping works.

I am not seeing this or the "halo" problem on my Mini.  For the latter, clear out the Play skin directory and re-install to make sure you have the current skin images.
