Media Center 10.0.10 beta available
« on: December 04, 2003, 05:33:44 pm »

Media Center 10.0.10 beta is available.

This is a beta.  Avoid this if problems, changes, or crashes will upset you.  Do NOT try this if you aren't prepared for trouble.

The latest known stable version of 9.1 is here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

Please check the license and price thread before you download:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=17336

The latest beta of 10 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter10010.exe

10.0.10 (12/04/03)

1. Fixed: MC drawing code could bleed pixels in the vertical direction in some rare cases.
2. Fixed: License checking was not working properly.

10.0.9 (12/04/03)

1. NEW: Added "Media Mode" system.
2. Fixed: Dragging files to Action Window > Build Playlist would crash if "Cancel" was pressed.
3. Fixed: Tagging mode would show "New Artist" (etc.) entries even when files hadn't been selected.
4. Changed: Reorganized tree structure.
5. Changed: Merged "Navigation" and "Favorites" menus.
6. Changed: Added WMA stream playback to TiVo.
7. Fixed: When searching in "My Computer" views, the focus could sometimes be stolen from the search box.

10.0.8 (formerly 9.1.315) (12/03/03)

1. Fixed: The "Play sound" option upon CD burning completion wasn't working.
2. Changed: Text displayed for Enter key (in remote control learning for example) changed from Return to Enter.
3. Changed: Added "Escape" key to remote control command list.
4. Fixed: MC would sometimes forget its last shutdown position and start as the default size and centered on the screen.
5. Fixed: Doing a "Backup Library" wouldn't always include the latest changes to the database.
6. NEW: Redesigned Action Window system.
7. NEW: Redesigned Tagging Mode system.
8. NEW: "New Value" tagging mode item has auto-complete.
9. NEW: In-place editing has auto-complete. (both in file lists and panes)
10. Fixed: If "skip duplicates" option was selected for file conversion tool, it would not allow changing just the bitrate of a file.
11. Fixed: In some cases, MC would submit CD information to YADB incorrectly so that the info for the last track was dropped.
12. Fixed: If you renamed a blank CD, the tree control would revert to showing the previous name.
13. Fixed: Search parser ignores multiple and's in a row. (NOTE: "and" is implied and so never required when entering searches)
14. Fixed: On left button down, it could take a while for buttons to change to the active state in the top playerbar.
15. Changed: When doing coversion while transferring files to Portable Devices, files with lower bitrate than conversion type will be converted.

A bit of feedback on the new AW changes:

1.  The title takes up too much vertical room.  Is this something that's skinnable?
2.  The expand/collapse and open/close is not very intuitive.  Back in August I had suggested:
Quote
I'd suggest a title bar (How about "Dynamic something or other") with a down triangle on the left when the window is open...  that turns to a right triangle when the window is closed.  Lots of applications use this model - Macromedia Dreamweaver is just the first that comes to mind.
3.  How about the ability to keep more than one window/pane open at the same time?  For instance, I'd find having the image and file properties open at the same time quite useful.

Overall, I definitely appreciate the added functionality!

Quick question - is the MC library forward and backward compatible with v9?

(can I install v10 and then revert back to v9 without library or tag corruption?)

Thanks - licensing problem is solved.

Suggestion for Media Modes: Show the custom-views as in the "All"-view.

Doh!

I'm a licensed user and it says my 30-day trial has expired.  I tried a restore and it claims I need to have administrative priviledges to restore the license, even though I am an administrator on the machine.  Windows XP SP1...

Hopefully I can reinstall 9.1.316 to get things working again...

Okay - I'm confused...

I've just downloaded this version and it is telling me that it cannot install and the trial has expired.

Does this mean I can't even look at version 10 - even though I'm an existing customer ?

Thanks,

A great build - looks a lot cleaner and simpler. A couple of possible improvements jump out at me:

The View/Media Mode and View/View Filter commands seem a little redundant. Two menus one after the other that both appear to have the same function. Probably a good idea to merge them. (Combining the Navigation and Favorites is great, btw).

In the View Filter, there is an option to Show Only the contents of a selected playlist. Is it possible to apply this to a Playlist Group as well? There is an option to do that in the Handheld Sync playlist selection dialog box, where you can limit the view to a playlist group.l

The goal would be to have a playlist group for parties, for example, and be able to limit the tree to only show the contents of that branch.

There may be license issues for a build or two.  Sorry.  We're sorting out the code and the rules at the same time.  Where is Scronch when we need him?

First off I’d like to say that version 10 is already looking promising.

I like the feature of selecting what MC is doing (audio, images, etc) and how the tree of the left is minimalist now. (Media Mode)

I've noticed a large increase in sound quality and performance. In addition the program loads faster as well.

I figure this is a perfect time to list the requested features that I’d like to see.

1) Customizable windows integration.
        A) being able to add commands
2) Mood and relaxation configuration
        A) auto play list to fit your mood
3) Being able to totally hide the action window
4) Burning a cd: Addition options to edit the space between each
track for ex: 2 second pause.  ATM MC burns to a cd on how you
have your playback settings configured, and for OGG users MC is
basically the only good CD burning software available.
5) Icon editor (so MC can control what icons to display for a defined
   file extension)

I've got a few more, but they seemed to have slipped my mind at the moment.

They’re few bugs so far.
Keep up the great work I’m looking very forward to V10.

Ok I have a pre December V8 license with the free upgrade to V9. I am ready to buy v10 at full price as I beleive you folks definately deserve it.

I loaded up V10.0.10 and have seen two different messages regarding expiration. The first splash at progoram start told me the trial expired in 5 days then when I clicked the link to buy I was sent to the v8 to v9 upgrade screen and got a small dialog box tellng ment that the trial will expire on 1/4/04.

As I said I will buy as soon as I can but thought you might like to know what I was seeing.

1) I think DSP should be one of the modules in the action window.
2) Can the option to sort by Genre  in the tree be restored?
3) The action window does not resize to accomodate album art.

Wow!  Version 10!  JRiver sure Rocks out the Code!

Please don't leave the Automation SDK behind. (Ability to define smartlists, view filters, access to different modes of Play, etc.)

Thanks, JRiver!

Being able to adjust the EQ in the AW would be way way cool!

Sorry I don't agree. I am making heavy use of the directx host plugin and most of the directx plugins have GUI's that just woudn't fit in the space availabel to the AW.

Yeah, I thought that could be a problem.  Maybe, the AW could resize to accomodate at least the EQ.

Hi,

The location bar is gone (which is ok for me) but it is still available in Options/Tree & View/Toolbar... 'Customize Toolbar' drop down box.

I like the Media mode switching but it looks like the views are independant in each mode. So if I set up some image view in the 'All media' mode it won't be available in the 'Image' mode. Similarly if I add some view in the "Video mode" it won't show under the "All media" mode. Am I correct ?

It is also perfectly possible to add an audio view scheme while in the 'Image Media' mode !

thanks,

C.

Possible Bug:  After leaving MC10 running all night, this morning I was unable to adjust the volume . . . .  the volume slider would jerk back & forth when I attempted to change volume, then snap back to where it had been set.  I got the same results even when using the master volume slider on my soundcard's mixer.

Buglist from Mirko :-)

  • Audio-Analysis on some files crash media core - fixed
  • Sorting in treeview with long textstrings wrong - bug
  • Draging a file from explorer to MC-playlist imports 2 versions (duplicate) - fixed
  • New:Switching media mode gives wrong Image Switching media mode while having "Image" in ActionWindow shows thumbnail after switch instead of original image when another filetype is selected (= if you have a picture and a mp3 in one playlist and switch media mode while having the mp3 selected, the image-aw is the thumbnail afterwards)

I never had complaints in previous versions regarding the action window speed, but the speed of this new version is lightening fast!  I also really like the new functionality.  Very nice work JRiver!!!

Bugs:
  • This problem has existed for some time, but I haven't been able to pin it down.  It doesn't happen consistently, which makes it hard to reproduce.  Perhaps this behavior has previously been reported.

1.  Edit Tag Info in Action Window for files in Recently Imported playlist.
2.  Select multiple files
3.  Attempt to shorten Album name by highlighting characters and press the Delete key.
4.  The files instantly vanish from the Recently Imported file list!  The Album name becomes "<varies>" because the field now refers to all remaining files in the Recently Imported playlist.  The files are still present in the media library.

  • Clean File Properties - Convert Underscores to Spaces is not working.
  • Duplicate files - Manual deletion of one of the files deletes both files.

BUT, only one icon/button is displayed.

Looks like a great build! Congratulations!
Two things I found out yesterday:
1. Did we loose to have the "Action window" in a seperate window. Now it looks like it stays within the main window only. Has been a convenient way to edit tags in 2 screen setup to have the Action windows on the second screen.

2. Label Wizard - Front Cover: Looks like it is impossible to mark "Print track on inside front cover" -> always greyed out.

Again, Congratulations! Hans.

Congratulations to a Player, that to me is the best in every way. :) :)

Thanks to the whole team for your fantastic work.

I have tried v 10.0.10 for some days now I think that the future looks nice for 10-20§ ;)

Such a present so many days before X-mas!! Not bad.

I haven't tested all the functions, I don't need all, so I can only tell that the most serious problem to me is that MC crash when I try to Import from inside. Outside seams to work.

And I'm waiting for when KingSparta's plugins are working as in 9.1

1.When i import some songs, make the process, but after click OK give a error message and crash. When i restart it, the songs hasn't been imported. This does happen when i import from the Tree and when i use the tools to import. If i select the songs and with right bottom click on Import to media library i don't have any problem. But this is only  useful to import one record each time.

2. If i try to restore my license, or if i try to install the .mjr file it appears a warning:
Quote
Error restoring Media Center license:
Failed opening registry. You must have 'administrator' privilege to install the license

I suppose that this maybe is 'cause my license was for Media Jukebox 8, although i've been using Media Center 9 and 9.1 without any problem. So maybe i've to buy the new license?

I don't think so, but, is it that license problem what makes the problem when import music?

Just synched for the first time using 10.0.10.  Everything went fine, however I got an error message about JPG files were not compatible and not transfered.  This is fine except there are no jpg files in any of the playlists transfered.  Has anyone else had this problem?

4) Burning a cd: Additional options to edit the space between each
track for ex: 2 second pause.  ATM MC burns to a cd on how you
have your playback settings configured, and for OGG users MC is
basically the only good CD burning software available.
Actually you can set the inter-track spacing currently. Go into the CD writer settings dialog (or click Options/Settings from the burning dialog) and check "Apply cross-fade and DSP effects to the CD". Now click the Settings button and select "Standard" for the "Transition between tracks" and slide the "Gap" slider to whatever inter-track spacing you want. Changing this will not affect your playback in MC, only burning CD's.

I'm at work so I don't have my system info.

The version 10 beta crashed on my sytem.  I used it once and the next time I went in I kept getting media core errors.

I tried to reinstall 9.1 v 316 and it didn't like that either, media core error.

I had to do an unistall.  I installed 9.1 v302 (I like the auto width resizing in the panes) and things are running smoothly now.

No specific action that I can tell to cause a crash.  I didn't do to much other than look around the one time I used v 10.  Next time I started it, crash.

V10 memory leak??

While transcoding about 40 files (APE-->> -alt preset fast standard), memory shot up to 60% part way through conversion.  Near the end it shoot up again to over 90% prompting Windows to ask to set Virtual Memory higher.

I have never had this occur before in other versions, barring a system misfunction perhaps there is something in the File Converter?
