HELP!  While I'm by no means a PC nor MJ newbie, I am pretty new to this "burning" stuff.   :-/

Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.   :'(

I download mp3's from web and try to burn on CD's as audio files.  No problems with the burns, CD's play OK.

The problem is with the tags.  I'd like to see the titles appear when I play CD's instead of just Track 1, Track 2, etc.

Before I burn, I check the properties of the mp3's and change titles, artist, etc., as appropriate, then save.  Check format tab to verify the both ID3v1 & ID3v2 tags are present.  They always are but when I burn I don't get titles just track 1, 2, 3 . . .  ?

I checked options and have checkmark in "Update tags . . .".  I just can't find out what setting I seem to be missing to prevent the tags from being converted to CD files.

I'm using 8.0.388.   Although I did not have this problem a few months ago (last burn before auto updates), it is here now.  Just don't know why.   >:(

FWIW:  Running MS W2k Pro on PIII 1 Ghz with 256 MB RAM.

Constructive feedback appreciated!  Thanks in advance for taking time to respond.

Tags don't translate to CDA format, which is what most CD players play. When you burn, if you select "audio CD", you are burning to CDA. If you select "Data CD", you are burning MP3 files. The tags on these are read by MP3 players.

OK, I'll buy that.  But I've seen some home stereo CD players that will show a title when a song is played.  How do I get that CD text to save on those audio CD's?

Also, I've noticed other CD's that I've burned with this same system and software show these titles in MJ.

In addition, I have a CD label program that can read the song titles from these CD's.  Previous CD's track titles were read by the label program so I didn't have to type them.  Now, even it won't read titles.  I've got to be doing something wrong!    :o

MJ shows them because it looked them up on YADB when you ripped them. It retains that information so will return the album, artist and track name info even if you're not on line
I've never used CD Text so I can't tell you anything about that. Sorry.

CD-TEXT is the answer.   Check your CD Writer settings and make sure the "use generic driver" is UNchecked.  If you can't uncheck it, try toggling the "use internal aspi layer" option, restart MJ and try again.   If you can't get it to work, report back with the info from "Help / System Info" and the type of CD burner you use.

There are several things that are needed for CD Text to work.

Your burner and burning software has to support writing CD Text.  Pretty much any recent burner and software should (although I seem to recall a recent thread here about CD Text problems with MJ.  Try a search of the forum to see what comes up).

Also, the CD player you are using for playback must support reading CD text.  This is not a common feature on home players, and if you have an older player, it almost certainly doesn't read CD Text.  Not all software players read it either.  For example, Windows CD Player does not, nor does Windows Media Player, if I recall correctly.

:D ;D :D ;D :D ;D

Hats off to RemyJ!!!  The Generic driver was causing the problem.  UNchecked it, now it works correctly.

It was driving me crazy  :P :-/

Many thanks for the help!

Or be patient for a few more builds of MJ 9.  We should have it.
