Any comments on the Image Editor remarks made in the 313 thread?

I just would like to know what to expect.  ;)

Thanks for pursuing this issue -- it works MUCH better now.  The CBR folders still take a little bit longer to display compared to VBR folders, but it's on the order of 3 or 4 seconds for a typical album rather than over 20 seconds as it was before.  A 3 or 4 second delay is a reasonable amount of time that doesn't interfere with workflow.

Thanks again,

I don't know. I've seen the problems, and they will be fixed one day, but they are too complex to put in the 11.0 build.

How is this too complex for this build?? Its a glaring problem that could ruin a lot of tagging and organization. Image Editor should never have been released if its problems are "too complex." What about for 11.1 or 11.5 or something so it'll be for a (hopefully) free upgrade?

Why don't you start a thread on this problem?  We think the bug is minor and has been there forever.

Sorry, but I am not starting a new thread on a known (confirmed) bug.
Bugs should be reported in this thread, and so some of us did.
JRiver thinks it is minor and some of us don't.
It will not be fixed shortly. This is a clear answer.
Most of us will be using an other editor untill the fix is available.
Hopefully it will be part of an overall update on image-management enhancements.
Thnx   ;)

If you start a new thread on this problem and keep it active, others will be more likely to see it and post to it -- i.e. not everybody keeps checking the main "bugs" thread, but threads dealing with specific problems can catch people's eyes.  If others notice the thread and start posting to it, it will demonstrate that others are interested in having it fixed, which is the best way to encourage the programmers to look into it.  I'd recommend going ahead and starting a thread about this issue, using a title that describes it as clearly and concisely as possible.  It may be a little more work for you, but it's most likely the best way (and perhaps the only way) you'll get a solution.

When ripping tracks and selecting the output format for the ripped tracks filename,
selecting say [Track] - [Artist] - [Name] preset will result in the filename having the
word [track] instead of the actual track number.

Yeah, that's correct.  The keyword you need to use is actually [Track #].

I have a playback bug that almost always occurs.  Here's the situation:

I first play a playlist of any type.  Everything functions as normal.  I then play a new playlist (any kind, but music of course), and when MC is getting ready to buffer the next song playback stops.  MC11 stays running, but playback doesnt continue until I hit play/pause a couple times.  This only happens after the first song in the new playlist.  It occurs everytime I play a new playlist (after the first one of course).  Hope that wasn't too confusing.

Potentially to confirm this, every now and then playback will stop abruptly at the exact point that the next track would load into buffer.  Progress bar continues with no audio and stops at the beginning of the next track.  I recall having kick started it once or twice via repeated play/stop/play/stop, but the sure method is to close program and restart.
This is with tracks loaded into  playing now, not in any sort of playlist.  Filetype = FLAC, ver 11.0.311 (disguised as .310)

OK I suppose that may help someone else to understand something that will prevent the C++ Buffer Overuns that shut down the media player, but it's not leading me to any ideas.

Has anyone else had this problem?  Does anyone else know how to fix this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Media schedular isnt working consistently for me.
The set volume task i made suddenly stopped working for me and so i deleted it and made a new one using the same preset. then it started working again.

Then today i got woken up at 7am by a playlist called "alarm clock 1" . this is very odd.
I should have been woken up at 9 o clock by the "alarm clock 2" playlist (playlist and preset I use for weekends).

So what woke me up? I have three presets for different times of the week:
weekends (9am "alarm clock 1" playlist)
weekdays (8am "alarm clock 1" playlist)
Weds/Thurs (7am "alarm clock 2" playlist)

Today it seems that I was woken up by the wed/thurs preset, but using the playlist from the other presets!

Sound only ram files cause to jump to full screen even if "Jump on play (if it has display)" is selected. Probably assumes that all ram files have video.

Hello there,

I have version 11.0.314 and my smart list is not synching correctly.  The smart list I use is this:

[Last Played]=>=40320

This smart list should only contain songs I have not heard in the last month.  When I play a song it does not remove it from my Last Played smart list and I am not sure why.  I have changed the time around on both my ipod (60gb) and my computer (Win XP SP2) and still it does not recognize that the song has been played (in Media Center).  Any ideas?  This smart list has worked under previous versions of Media Center.  Any ideas about what is wrong?

Thanks,

I was trying to use the FTP option, and i can only get it to work part way

once i add the first folder

"spartasoftware.com" to get to my web site it does not upload

it may have something to do with the "." in the path name

and that is required to get to may main site files.

can someone confirm this?

MC accessing files stored on network drive using UNC.  MC user has read only access to network drive.  Press Shift Delete and 'Delete' or 'Delete without sending to the recycle bin' both appear to work.  Obviously, they shouldn't and an error should say "Unable to Delete - insufficient network permissions" or something to that effect.

Under certain conditions, MC 11.0.314 will rewrite the tag info of a web radio url in playing now with the tag info of the track following.  This is the reverse of an issue solved two months ago where a web radio url would write its tag info to the following track.

1.  Bring a url into playing now.  The url I used was smoothjazz.com, which streams 128 kbps mp3.

2.  Place a track following that in playing now.  I used a wma 160.

3.  The url will display in the info window a duration as provided by the url.  Let's say 4:35.  Eventually,  the stream duration exceeds the track duration, so that 5:28 / 4:35 is displayed in the info window at the top of MC.  The progress bar stalls at the end of the bar, but the url will continue on and continue correctly updating new song info.

4.  If you pause and then resume while the url is updating its stream info (for example, going from a station break back to music), the info window will display the info for the next track, exactly as if it was buffering the next track, and then it will go to and play the next track.

5.  The previous url now shows tag info for the next track, duplicating the next track for the name, album, and duration fields, at least..

UPDATE:

This problem seems to occur with the changing of track info and pausing.  It has also happened when 1, 2, 3 were not true, but I had simply paused (#4).

Hello,

Got three bugs:

1) If I rip a CD to Ogg Vorbis files, large temporary files are left behind (.tmp). There are not as many .tmp files as there are .ogg files, generally 1 less. Ogg quality set to High.

2) Not all of the ogg files end up having tag data in it - the others have to be fixed by doing an Update Tags From Library. (I know this because if I re-import them prior to updating their tags they come up as Unassigned. If I re-import them having updated their tags all is well)

3) If I synchronise to my iRiver iHP120 and I tick the All Files check box, not all the files end up on the iRiver. Several attempts at this generally gets all files across in the end. The iHP120 appears as a fixed drive, and I've done the Configure Handheld Paths thing on it.

Otherwise, very nice :-)

This tab said reply...is this how you post a bug report? Why no 'POST' tab?

Anyway, here is the bug report:

For most all CD ripping I use mp3Pro from either; Musicmatch Jukebox Plus V.10.00.4015b; or Nero Wave Editor V.2.0.034.

As is, everything is fine and sounds very good. The problem is, when creating a music CD’s with Media Center (11.0.314 registered) the same song that show to be 4 minutes long, is 6:24 long in Media Center. I checked the length against the listed CD time, Musicmatch, Nero, and Windows XP explore and all say the song length is 4:00.

Media Center does not seem to report the correct length with any mp3Pro encoded music files I have. And this is related I’m sure, the reported Bit Rate is always reported wrong.

The ripped files are normally reported as 144Kbps or 160Kbps by all programs except Media Center. The same reported 144Kbps rate will show up as 58, 73 or 99 or 124 etc etc., and the time reported in always off.

I’ve had 7:00 songs reported to be as long as 16:38 minutes and clearly if I rip a music CD I can not get a complete and correct CD with this much time differential.

I took a CD, ’15 Louisiana Zydeco Classics’ which is about 54 minutes long and ripped with mp3Pro and tried to make a copy with the same 15 songs with Media Center and it said it was 75 minutes or Janis Ian ‘Revenge’ was 51 minutes but reported back as 61 minutes.

Any ideas?

This is not a bug. mp3PRO has never been one of the supported formats in MC. Only a few player programs support mp3PRO format. MC can decode mp3PRO files only in so-called compatibility mode at 22.050 kHz sample rate. Obviously the facts that you have used mp3PRO in VBR mode and MC sees only the compatibility part of the mp3PRO files are the causes of your problems.

Here is an old, but still informative article from the year 2001 that explains the MP3 and mp3PRO differences: http://www.digit-life.com/articles/mp3pro/. Since then the LAME MP3 encoder has been developed further. The current version has much improved quality.

I've posted a detailed bug report here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=23031.0

This bug has been present forever and I've posted it many times.

Library Tools ---> Clean File Properties ---> Convert Underscores to Spaces.

This function does not work!  After running, the underscores are still present and spaces have not been added.  I've tried running this independently of the other Clean functions with the identical results, that is, nothing happens.

I often have to use an external tagging/renaming app to accomplish what MC should be doing.

If you choose not to fix this bug for MC 11, I recommend that the option for converting underscores to spaces be removed from the dialog.

Previously converting underscores to spaces has always worked for me. Now I tried it without any other options selected and it didn't work. After that I selected the "Change spacing to single-spaced" option also. "Convert underscores to spaces" started to work again.
