re. Navigational Favourites...
« on: June 30, 2006, 04:26:29 am »

Favourites were dropped in the early builds of v12, but have since made a welcome return.
Sadly, the feature returned in more or less exactly the same design they had in previous versions.

I would love to see the feature get a little touch of polish applied. A forum search reveals similar requests as far back as 2004
Some things I would like to see:
  • The ability to create folders in which to group our favourites
  • The inclusion of the favourites list in the library backup
  • Connection with the rest of the database, so that if I rename or remove a playlist or location that's also in the favourites list, the favourites list gets auto-updated
  • An improved 'organiser' dialogue. Moving an item up and down a long list is really hard work with the current design

The way I had it set up, I added "Favorites" to the top toolbar, so it worked just like the Bookmarks|Favorites in a browser.

It would actually be useful, especially if you could set it to remember a search specification as well. This would make it possible to bring up an album of photos, a specific genre of music, etc.

It was a casualty of the new tree, but may return.

Add my vote to its return... it was a good way to keep the tree hidden.

Precisely 8)

to which i add
..support for folders
think of viewschemes that include a smartlist grp in the first column, which is still faster than using expressions but the fastest ever would be individual viewschemes that specialise in each smarlist. Very easy to pick out when folders are possible in favourites.

..more responsive organise favorties dialog

..saved in the library backup so it isn't lost between upgrades or a restore on another computer. If anything this has to be the most annoying.

I also miss it. It was also a quick way for me to get to some of my favorite smartlists, now I have to go back to the tree and drill waaaaaay down to get to them. PITA. Please bring it back soon.

OK, so, build .52 sees the welcome return of the 'favourites' list... Woohoo...

but no change in its appearance, behaviour or functionality... Boohoo!

----------------------
When the list gets long, organising it is a little bit, how could I put this, archaic?

If we want to move an item from the bottom of the list up a few notches, we scroll down, we select the item, then we hit the "Up" button a few times. The organisation window flashes a few times, then resets its view scrolled to the top. So we scroll down to see where our selected item landed. not quite there yet, so, can we see where we want it to go, yes? then count, and hit the up button that number of times and hopefully that will work.
Hmmm.

Folders, or 'groups' of favourites were also hoped for to further aid organisation and retrieval.

I must tread a little carefully here, because I'll take the favourites list as it is now over nothing at all as navigation over the past few weeks has been a real PITA without it, and so would hate for it to be pulled again.
It could use even just a little bit of TLC though, surely, don't you think?

Archaic..lol..like IE v1.0..yep.

How much time would it take, it looks like basic GUI stuff, which if its been implemted everywhere already should be a piece of cake.

is there a better system in the works or what ?

add to this location tracking.
If I add a view scheme to the list, and then subsequently change the scheme's name, or move the scheme, it would be nice if MC could update the list for me.

Is this officially 'back in' now? I see the function - and have added a button to my bottom toolbar and can add favourites - brilliant!

However, whenever MC restarts, the favourites are gone. Not quite so great.....

"Patience, Grasshopper"
"All good things come to he who waits"

etc. etc. :D

After sixteen years and seventeen major builds, we now have entry tracking/auto updating. The, erm, 'organiser/editor' is still screaming out for some love, though ;)

Thanks for the recent changes though, appreciated, as always.
