If you use the mouse to drag the window around the screen, MC "jumps" whenever it comes near the edge of the screen. This is by [Matt] design. I've asked Matt to let it snap ONLY on mouse release so it won't be so "twitchy" when it's near the edges.

Please tell Matt he's wrong. I can't convince him.

I have a freeware application called AllSnap on every computer I use. It gives that ability to the entire Windows interface. Highly recommend it!

So yes, I like the feature.

99.99% of the time I run MC maximised, but on those rare ~~ocassions~~ (occasions? occassions?)

that MC is in restored mode, I do quite like the way it snaps to the edge.

I'm not proposing to remove the snap, just make it happen at the last minute.

As For The Snap I Don't Really See A Big Deal Of One Over The Other.

I Did Vote "No" However, Where It May Have A Slight Edge For me Over The Other.

I voted for Matt. Do I care about this? Not a lot but existing behaviour seems sensible if you are going to snap to edges - you can see what its doing. To have the window jump when you let go of the button might be more frustrating.

In Excel holding Alt whilst resizing an object snaps it to cell boundaries - possibility of a similar key modifier here?

There are so many columns i wish i could display...if only i had a 100ft projection screen, that the *only* way for me to run to run MC is...maximised.

So..did not vote as i don't understand this snap business. ?

If it makes any sense, i prefer to have Show windows content while dragging unchecked in Windows->Display Properties->Appearance->Effects

I just wanted to say that I've noticed and like the snapping a lot. Actually, it made my life a lot easier recently when setting up our fancy new video wall at work (I'm licensing the office's copy of MC just as soon as I get that machine online).

I voted for Matt's way (the current way) because it matches how other windows applications work when snapping is turned on. For example: Photoshop, Illustrator, Freehand, and most other layout/design applications all work just like MC is now. I do feel that you should probably add an Options --> General --> Interface --> Snapping option (just on/off would work for most I suspect). Some people just hate snapping all the time, and sometimes it gets in the way for specific purposes.

Jim's way would annoy me seriously, I suspect! It would snap to somewhere it "wasn't" after I let go of the mouse button?? This doesn't seem right at all! When you let go, it is to "drop" the item where it is. It shouldn't "drop" to somewhere else, for sure!

EDIT: If any change was made, I would reduce somewhat the "snap border" area. Right now it is a pretty big area where it "grabs" the window and snaps it over to the edge. I think if you cut it in half from what it is now, it'd probably go a long way towards appeasing Jim's feelings of "jumpiness".

PS. I'm waiting for my dreams now, Matt...

Makes no difference to me because I run MC maximized 100% of the time.

AllSnap is a great program but it does not work on Vista.

I run MC maximized on a very wide LCD, so I can see lots of columns. 99% of my use of MC's UI is to manage my music library DATABASE, so wide is wonderful. I've never found a reason to shrink the window, so don't care how it behaves.

What might be an interesting poll is, what size window/full-screen do you use for MC? It would clarify how much of MC's columns/workspace/various screens are normally seen.

My desktop is 1680x1050. Alas, my laptops vary from 1440x900 to a squished 1024x768.
