I am unable to get my 10GB, 2nd generation iPod to be properly recognized under the latest build of MC 12 (12.0.279). I am currently receiving the following error when I attach the iPod device:
Your iPod could not be properly identified.
Please check for an updated version of Media Center.
iPod type: "xxxxxxxxNGH", 0, 0
(the x's are actually the full serial number for the iPod, but it would appear that under MC11 only the last 3 digits of the serial are needed to ID the iPod. However, by all accounts of posts made to this forum, it would appear that this mapping is not needed under MC12 (unsure of this).
The iPod is recognized as an external drive under 'My Computer' under the 'Drives and Devices' drill down, but manually dragging and droppng files directly to the drive does not get them recognized within the iPod menuing system, eventhough they do appear on the device when it is browsed via the MC interface. The iPod is currently updated to v1.5 firmware. I have tried a restore to factory settings as well as reinstalling and deinstalling iTunes to no effect (iTunes works fine with the device, but I don't use it to manage my media).
I used to get the same error on previous versions of MC (can't remember if it was 11 or 12 -- its been a while since I have updated the iPod), but after clicking OK to the error message, the software would still recognize the device and place it properly under 'Drives and Devices', where it could be managed and synched properly. Either a recent update to the iPod firmware or the MC software has completely broken the connectivity between the device and MC (aside from recognizing it as an external drive). The model number for the device is A1019 and the last three digits of the serial number is NGH, if that is still relevant to MC12.
Any ideas?
