MediaServer saving tag changes on shutdown
« on: May 27, 2008, 04:22:20 am »

I run a separate install of MC 12 (build 497) as a UPnP server on my server PC. Today when I shut down my server i got a notification of MediaServer counting down the saving of tag changes in about 250 files. What kind of tag changes are this? I only use this installation to stream to UPnP dvices so I assume this may be the play count of the files. Or is something else changed in the tag when files are served over UPnP? But why isn't that updated directly after a file has been played?

I've also noticed this. I'd like it if it were playcounts, but I doubt it because my library server is using a read only version of the library.

The UPnP server only does playcount and last played.

Cover art?

As I said, I only use the UPnP server installation for streaming. Therefore I never modify files on the server and I normally don't even run the main MC app (only at times to restore the library which I maintain on my main PC). The media server autostarts with the server. But you mentioned playcount and last played - does the UPnP server update these fields in the file tag? But if so, why does it store them when it is terminated and not directly after the change?

Cover art is done in the background, doesn't matter if you are "just a server" or not I think.

I don't know if it is the last played or play count fields causing the tags to be written.

But what is done? Does MC download cover art automatically? Is there a setting to disable that?

Tools->Options->Libraries & Folders, look for "Get Cover Art"
