When can we expect support for new Ipod Nano?
« on: October 05, 2008, 10:56:40 am »

I just purchased a new 4G Nano and was wondering if/when it will be supported in MC12/13?

There have been several messages on this subject, yet AFAIK no response from the devs.  I understand that these things take time, but just a "yeah we're working on it" would be enough for me for now.

I'm using iTunes and it's driving me crazy...sob...wibble.

Tell me about it. All my files are in .FLAC format. It's now a big pain to convert them to MP3 and import into iTunes.

We're not working on the new iPods.  We may again if Apple decides to be nice.  Don't hold your breath.

Thanks for the Quick reply Jim..........

Any suggestions what the best way for JRiver customers to plea their frustration to Apple. Maybe if enough of their customers complain they "might" find a compromise. I realize that it is probably beating a dead horse, but I will be glad to complain. Personally I cant imagine my life without an iPod or JRiver and if it came to a choice, I cant imagine having to choose. The problem is...... I am not sure what they are doing that is causing the problem. (Forgive me for not paying attention)

I'm sorry, but I don't understand.  Many of the other media managers are already providing support for the new Nano.  What's the problem?

Cutting off your nose to spite your face?

Better come up with some kind of solution.  In MC's market segment, you can't exactly expect to shun and ignore the by-far #1 handheld player just because it is hard and annoying and expect it not to have a sales impact.  You can certainly hope that Apple screws up and they fall from their dominant position, but I certainly wouldn't count on it.

For example, I don't know of many other customers that you have that are more loyal than me.  I recommend JRiver MC nearly constantly to clients, friends, and co-workers (probably got at least 10 people to try out MJ over the past 2 months alone).  The number one thing I get asked is "does it work with my iPod?"  Without some sort of solution, I'm going to have to stop recommending MC/MJ altogether.

I'll again pimp my "use iTunes as a handheld" idea as a simple, effective solution that could work and won't get broken every time they rev the iPod/Phone line.

I think JRiver should get on with implementing this. It should allow us to put iPod problems behind us forever.

Exactly.

Whining about it doesn't make it better, and railing against the "evils" of Apple hasn't exactly helped Sandisk, Creative, the RIAA, Microsoft, Yahoo, or any of the others who tried to take a run at them and failed.

The build of iTLU that I use now was released on September 20, 2006 and still works with iTunes 8.01 just fine.  Jim, other than being angry at Apple, what are your specific concerns with going this direction (especially considering that native support has been all-but ruled out)?

We're applying pressure to Apple.  They'll buckle.

Maybe my questions should be more specific.......
What exactly is it that the New iPod software/hardware/firmware got....(or doesnt have) that is "not working" or causing problems with MC? How can we gripe if we dont know what we want~~~~ ?
Thanx

Apple is making it difficult, even nearly impossible to support their devices.  They want their customers to be only _their_ customers.

The latest Touch and iPhone make their data files next to impossible to read and write.  I'm sorry that you lose.  We would rather it were different.

You wouldn't have to explain anything to Apple.  They'd just send you to the "Genius" Bar.

A p p l e

There was an interesting interview in a Brithish newspaper, the Telegraph, with Apple's co-founder, Steve Wozniak.

Quote: ""Consumers aren't getting all they want when companies are very proprietary and lock their products down".

I'm sorry that you lose.

I sympathise with the Touch and iPhone issue, but for the nano it's not really just the consumer that loses.  I'll just move over to another product and give them the cash instead.  Reluctantly I must add, I can't really imagine life without it, but I'll cope.
