I have been unable to install MC on a laptop with Windows Vista home edition. At the end of the installation, windows opened a window called 'windows compatibility assistant' suggesting that windows had detected a problem but the compatibility assistant did not fix the problem. The installation program runs to completion but when I open MC, a window starts to open then closes immediately. I have tried installing with firewalls turned off but this doesn't help.

Do you have admin rights?

yep I log in as an administrator

I don't know what the problem may be.  Please try rebooting.  Try uninstalling and reinstalling.

Hmm. I tried that but it didn't work either, I can't uninstall the program either, If i run uninstall from the start menu / all programs / j.river media center 14 / uninstall OR from the control panel the same thing happens as when I try and open media center ie he uninstall doesn't run either. Reboot didn't help.

Any other ideas?

Try finding the exe file and change the compatibility.  Maybe Vista made a mistake.  MC doesn't require any compatibility mode.

Download the latest from our site and install it.

still no joy

I changed the compatibility of the istall program and reinstalled it. The I changed the compatibility of media centre14.exe using the windows program compatibility wizard, Still the same symptom - opens and closes immediately

Do you have any othe suggestion?
