Jerky mpeg2 playback, Intel GM945 on Vista x86.
« on: March 02, 2010, 07:07:59 pm »

Greetings:

I've recently setup an HTPC via an unused laptop connected to my television.  The OS is Vista x86 Home Premium with all updates.  The laptop is has an Intel DuoCore 1.7Ghz processor, with an Intel GM945 video adapter.  It performs beautifully in every regard but one:  my Happauge HVR1600 mpeg2 (720x480) video captures play back jerky.  I would attribute this to the subpar graphics chip, but it plays back 1024x720 MKV videos flawlessly.  I've tried both Shark's Video codec package, and the Klite codec pack, but it makes no difference.  I'd try to use a different directshow decoder such as the  hardware accelerated Cyberlink DVD9 decoder, but J.river seems locked into using the default Microsoft mpeg2 decoder.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Update your copy of MC to the one at the top of this board.

Try CCCP.  Read about it in the DirectShow article on the wiki (link above).  Turn off taskbar notification for Haali and FFDShow when you install.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Ultimately, I was able to resolve the issue by selecting a custom graph within J.river, selecting the Cyberlink decoder and disabling hardware acceleration.  Apparently, my video adapter does not support mpeg2 DVXA.
