Afternoon, and welcome to the forums...

Looking good there, more clean and tidy than my attempt at an iTunes 9 clone, though mine is more true to the original design ;)

"Action Back" and the two "stepper" images are, I'm sure, legacy images from older versions. Action Back used to be a little "Back" arrow that would appear in certain circumstances, in the left edge of the action window header, and the "stepper" images (called "UpDown" images in default skins such as Noire) are another mystery. The Up and Down varients make an appearance in the DSP studio (couldn't find anywhere else) and I couldn't find any place the left/right variants get used.

If in doubt, make them anyway!!

Good questions too, that demonstrate attention to detail, something that can't always be taken for granted ;)

You far from release?

iam finished to 99% so it will be released today or tomorrow.
I have only 2 really small issues.

1. Is it possible to remove only the Gridline in the main.xml (not the Blue-White effect - only the lines)
- f.e Gridline "0" or something??

2. Does someone know the Entry Name for the List_ListButton for the main.xml? (found in the \Default Skin Items\Standard View)
- Entry Name="ListButton" doesnt work

1. Assuming you're talking about the vertical column gridlines in a list, that gridline visibility is either enabled or disabled by user choice via Options>Tree and View>Show Gridlines.

You can't disable them in the XML, but you can control their colour, so, I forced the issue in my Seamless skin by making the gridline colour exactly the same as the list background colour. It works for me there because I don't have any candy stripes going on, but maybe something you could experiment with.

2. Add the details to the List area of the XML, starting the line like so: <Entry Name="LinkButton" Bitmap="
That will over ride the default skin items entry.

Tips:
Inside the default skin items folder, there is also a "main.xml" file. Open that in a text editor to find where the image details need to go in your own main.xml in order to replace the default items with your own.

Have you considered creating a list group header graphic? Stick: <Entry Name="GroupHeader" Bitmap="List_GroupHeader.png" NumberImages="1" Columns="2,?-Flex,2" Rows="2,?-Flex,2" />
in the list section of the XML file and create an image at least 6x6 pixels for it to use. Subtle is better. I think they add a lot to a skin, but as they are quite a recent addition, not many skinners are aware of their existance, especially when starting off from an old skin base as you have done.

Just an idea, of course, and if you don't see them fitting in this skin, you can always build them into your next one ;)

1. im an idiot ^^ i only had to open the  main.xml -.-

2. i want to have the horizontal girdlines, but not the vertical lines (1px). So your solution istn the best =/
So im looking for a solution to set the color of the vertical girdline as the color of a selected horizontal line.
SelectedGridLine don't work =/

and thanks to your tip, i will insert it into the skin

It's a nice clean skin, and it's obvious that you have spent a fair amount of time on it. Well done, and more power to your skinning.

For me, any skin I use absolutely must give a very clear indication of where the current focus is in the program... ie. what's going to happen when I press delete or enter?
Sadly, as your tree and list selections offer no such feedback, I couldn't use it as-is. It would only be a matter of time before a momentary lapse of concentration and the delete key caused me a lot of pain!!

That's just me though, notoriously grumpy and overly picky!! This is still a great skin that will win many fans, of that I'm sure.

Nice work! Thanks.

Sadly, as your tree and list selections offer no such feedback...

I don't see this. Every selection I've tried displays quite distinctly as white foreground on dark background.

Make a list selection... Now go click on the tree entry for the view you're in (the one that's selected). Now the tree has focus... you know this because you just clicked there, which is fine for some (most?) users, but for me, I also need a visual indicator that the list no longer has focus.

Try the same exercise using Black and Blue or Seamless and you'll know exactly what I'm getting at.

OIC. Yes, other skins have have two levels of highlighting. I suppose that's occasionally been telling me whether the list has focus—even though I haven't been conscious of it. I can't think of a situation where I regularly make a selection in the list, and then change focus. :-\

You don't need to. Maverick07 asked for feedback, and that's mine. Using pane tagging when working with images is a classic example. When you start tagging in the panes, the list no longer has focus.

None of this should detract from the fact that this is still an excellent skin that many will enjoy using, yourself included, I'm sure. :)

The point I was trying to make was that the behaviour probably makes a difference even though I'm not consciously aware of it (or can think of cases where I should be). I think the skin would be better if it did this.

ah now i know what you mean ^^
i updated the skin, made only some minimal changes and the mouseover function at the list and tree.
But i dont do the thing that you mean, coz i think its easier to see "where" you are.
So if you f.e selected the Soundtracks you also see that all albums and artists are in use. For an expert as you are, i think its no problem to fix that small issue.

lol strange, when i log in i couldnt see what you wrote, anyway

To have a bold title, open the main.xml with the editor and look for the Entry:
<DisplayFont TitleSize="100" TitleWeight="100" StatusSize="100" StatusWeight="100" />  - at the <Playerbar>

delete this entry - save - and restart the skin

btw., I found a place the Action Window "Back" image deployed...

If you have multiple handheld devices attached and press "Handheld" in the action window, the next window presents a list of devices to pick from, and that window shows the "back" arrow in the left end of the header. Still haven't tripped over the horizontal steppers yet!

I know from experience how much hard work is involved in icon replacement, especially the smallicons.png file!!

Here's another tip regarding the installation instructions:
Quote
How to install:
- Backup the Original Folder (\J River\Media Center 15\Data\Default Art)
- Copy and replace the downloaded files to the "\Default Art" folder

This will work just fine. However, next time a user installs Media Center for any reason, these custom files will be replaced with the original files.

If you create a new folder inside the "Data" directory named "Custom Art" and save your replacement icon set in there instead, Media Center will always use the custom files as long as they exist, regardless of the chosen skin, and best of all, these files will not be removed next time the Media Center installer is run.

In order for the smallicons to be deployed from the "Custom" folder, you must also create a "Custom Resources" folder and place a copy of the "Images.xml" found in "Default resources" in there. Restart MC to have it use the custom stuff.

Great work on these. Well done.

yea the icons took a lot of time -.-

your solution to install the files sounds great,...
i made the Custom Art folder in the Data folder but it doesnt work o.O

the original files are in the "Default Art" folder, and as i said the new files are in the "Custom Art" folder. Both in the "Data" folder.
Media Center is still using the default icons.

Any idea?

The gray "small icons" are nice, but they don't have the indicator for the import status. The unimported files are normally indicated with a golden icon in the "Image (small icon)" column. The feature is useful in Playing Now and Drives & Devices. I edited the color of those icons to return this functionality. I attached an enlarged picture of the edited part. The actual edited SmallIcons.png file is in the attached zip package.

Here is a feature that can be used for switching between two (or more) art sets:

Quote
14.0.133 (01/26/2010)

2. NEW: Artwork in the "Default Art" or "Custom Art" directories can be localized by adding a " - [Language]" to the filename. (example: Recorder - German.png, Recorder - Spanish.png, etc.)

You can create a copy of your usual language folder and give the custom art files matching names.

For example:
Language: English (custom)
Filenames: SmallIcons - English (custom).png, Logo - English (custom).png, NoThumbVideo - English (custom).png, etc.

Restart MC to load the custom art files after changing to the custom language.

I love this skin with the new icons!
Now if ONLY you could do a mini skin in the style of the "blade" or "no frills" skins it would be AWESOME.
And I mean those to because they are really mini, you can dock them up on the screen and go on listening to music with out the app interfering.

thanks for the positive comments,
maybe i will make a slim skin based on the FusionX, but i will not make a theater skin coz my JRiver crashes all the time when i want to start the 3Dview, theater,...

anyway, im working on another Standard Skin, based on the old one, but this time more minimal and a little bit darker.
I call it FusionX2, not very creative. Maybe if someone of you have a better name for the skin let me know =)
The skin is only at the beginning, only the concept of the MiniView is finished. The rest will look like the old one, just as i lilbit darker and grey.

So here it is a preview:
Hope you like it

...Argh the text will be darkgrey and not black, forgot to change it ^^
