Joe,

As Jim mentions, WebRemote is your friend. open a browser on the iPad to Webremote IP address:port (enable it under MediaNetwork>WebPlay/Remote) and you can control the main zone or multiple zones.
I used the skin that is mentioned at http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=58674.0
And this combined with multiple zones is how I now run my house.
I have a Windows 2008R2 server with MC15 and multiple sound cards with cables to "speakers" in some rooms. a Denon Receiver for music that is a "Zone" via DLNA for music. I also have Plex (OS X HTPC) which is another zone for pushing video, this functionality only works under 8.5 however and not the newer 9.0.
The iPad is the remote for playing whatever media I want in each zone.
I tried various UPnP and DLNA client on portable devices, but kept coming back to WebRemote, simple and works!

clicked onto the link to WebRemote. And then read the instructions. I went into JRMC15 and got stuck at step 2.

Step "1. Go to Tools/Options/Media Network"  OK fine, I found this no problem.

Step "2. Generate an Access Key" Now I have a problem. No where on the "Tools/Options/Media Network" screen do I see anything like "Generate an Access Key" so now I am stuck. I see Library Server, Library Server Client, DLNA Server, DLNA Renderer, DLNA Controller.

But even if I did that... Step "3. Mail an invitation to yourself" is the next step. And how do I mail an invitation to myself? I don't know what that is and I don't know how to do it.

and then, Step "4. Click on the link." What link? I assume I will need to enter the link into the iPads web browser address and then follow the instructions from there?

Check Library Server. Then choose 'enable easy access from anywhere' from inside the Library Server box.

Once Registered, 'easy access' turn into 'Mange Access to Server'. The e-mail invitation option is in there.

If you're looking to control from an Ipad, you won't need the access key. Instead, expand the WebRemote menu and choose open with web browser. That will give you the link you need to control MC.

Actually, the invitation contains a link that uses the access code for web remote. You can also copy it to your clipboard.

OK, I checked Library Server. I don't see "enable easy access from anywhere" and I don't see any "Library Server Box".

Are you using the same software as I am?

What version are you using, Joe?  15.0.163 is at the top of the MC15 board.

Tools/Options/Media Network, then check the box next to Library Server.

I modified the wiki to bring it up to date.

Which version of Media Center 15 are you using? I suggest downloading the lastest version here.

You can see the enable easy access field highlighted below

Gee, this is fun

I downloaded the latest 15.0.163 version (and verified through Help/About), and the tools/media network screen still looks the same and the previous version. The screen does not look like the screen shot above.

Maybe you've turned it off.  Try Tools/Options/General/Features.

Are you on a netbook or something with a really small screen?

Are you using a third party skin?

What is your screen resolution?  Did you try increasing it?

If you're using a large font, try making it smaller.

Can you post a screenshot?  Or describe what you see compared to wig's screenshot above?

Yes, I was using the 150% text feature in Windows 7. And now I can see the screen correctly now. I have several music systems running MC, but this copy is for demonstration on a 55" flat panel. I did not know that engaging the 150% feature, so that the 1080p screen can be read at a distance...

see my set-up at http://www.kosmic.us/kosmic-seattle-room-2-genesis-system.html

Nice rig!

You could also try 130 or 140% in the Theater View options.

The steps
1. Go to Tools/Options/Media Network.
2. Enable Library Server by checking the box.
3. Generate an Access Key (Enable Easy Access).
4. The six character Access Key should then be available in the same area. You can copy it to the clipboard or email an invitation to yourself or open a web browser.
5. Click on the link in the e-mail.
Once you've used the Access Key to connect, you will be able to browse your library and play files on the server.
Firewalls will prevent access unless the port (52199 in the examples above) is open. Please see Network Access for more information.

OK, I've made it through part of step 4. I have the Acess Key. Then a message screen poped-up and instructed me to enter the key at File>Library>Connect to Library. I entered the key then hit connect, and Media Center encountered a problem and had to shut down.

I am stuck at step 4.

Are you clicking on that link from your iPad?  Is the network on?  Are both machines connected to the same network?

You can test the connection from the same section where you generated the key.

What link? And yes, the network is on and both machines are on (the server and iPad).

How do I test the connection?
