.ts recorded tv not watchable outside MC 19.0.41
« on: September 24, 2013, 01:19:56 am »

Hi all,
Following on from here http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=83310.msg568747#msg568747 and http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=74038.0 I am still not able to watch .ts recorded TV shows, recorded by MC, outside of MC. This includes players like VLC or importantly for me, plex wont even see the .ts files to stream to my Roku box player whereas it detects and plays all other media files (Roku not being DLNA wont work with MC directly, thus I use plex as the server to the Roku).

I gather that the  "PAT (Program Association Table) packets and PMT (Program Map Table) packets are missing from the files.

Are others having issues still with playing .ts files outside of MC? ....I am considering buying a DLNA player to work with MC server but wanted to avoid the expense if possible

Thanks
David

Sorry, I've been meaning to check this. I'm pretty sure VLC, works for me but I'll do an on-purpose check for you.
[EDIT:
Forgot. I have done a check for MC 19.0.38 ..
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=74038.msg571257#msg571257

No matter. I'll try the same with MC 19.0.41 and let you know what I get.]

Not wanting to stray too far from the topic, I find that sometimes .ts recordings get (to use Ozzie vernacular) "stuffed up" maybe due to some problem with the TV tuner or excessive CPU demand (who knows?   :-\  ). They still play for me mind.

Anyhoo, the recording may get split into 2 parts or if it's just the 1 file, it may misbehave in MC and not permit fast-forwarding during playback (sux when you want to skip the ads).

So, I've been using the plugin worked up by glynor:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=76147.0
specifically this part of it:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=76147.msg552751#msg552751
that requires some 3rd party software to process the video.

Once I've processed the problem file, where typically some audio &/or video frames are the problem and they're dropped out, the rehashed version works just fine in MC or VLC - no matter.

The point of this journey is that maybe glynor's plugin could offer an option to resolve your problem run as a background process that minimises hassle to you. Once the problem and solution are nailed down, the decision for you will be the trade off between another piece of software (the glynor option), the DLNA player you mention or [ fill in the blanks with the answer that you haven't worked out yet ].

I'll keep an eye on this one. Hope you get yourself sorted soon.

Hey Astromo,

Splitting in 2 or more parts has always occurred for me if watching whilst recording and mentioned in this thread

I don't think I've experienced that one yet

Thanks Astromo for this.I had forgotten about McAutoQueue.I originally started exploring it some time ago as a possible adskip solution.Haven't read the whole thread yet but gather it will also  transcode "flaky ts files" (glynor's words) using VideoReDo. I have AVS-Video-Converter so don't know if it can be used with this.Converting to a different video format would likely solve my problem but just not sure if worth the hassle depending on how automated it is or is not.For similar reasons I never followed up on adskip programs as I find programming the remote for a 3 minute jump forward combined with 10 sec jump back (or quick burst of FF) gets me past the ads in two or three clicks.Still, if there is a program that does this editing in the background then I'm in for sure especially if can kill two birds with one stone (ad editing and transcoding.)

I believe Yaobing is kindly revisiting this problem and maybe "spoofing" some PMT/PAT packets for the ts files

I'd missed this in the to & fro that is Interact. Thanks for the word up.

If AVS-Video-Converter comes with a command line interface, you might have a chance. One to workshop with glynor. I must admit, I haven't got MCaq working as per the glynor plan but ultimately, I'd like to. One of those go-back-to jobs, where I have another chip at the block until I get diverted with other stuff.

Let us all know if an AVS-Video-Converter transcode unflakes your flaky .ts files.
