Works good though.

Update on registration info:

Uninstalled with the "sudo dpkg -P" command, installed version .94 with "sudo dpkg -i".

If I run Mediacenter from the commandline as user it reports that the database will be opened read only and all my previous settings are still
as they where. 0 Days left in registration. It is version .94
If I run Mediacenter from commandline as root I get the registration message from the .92 version (something like 9 days left). Also, I get the message it cannot open the database.
I get 3 database options in a screen: repair, start over and repair from backup. If I try to start a new database it does nothing.

Uninstalling as root or sudo does not make a difference.

What am I doing wrong?

You shouldn't run applications as root, especially programs still under development and in alpha stage.

Close MediaCenter if its running and check whether there are any processes still running from MC. From a terminal try 'ps -aux | grep media'. If there's still a process running kill it using the process ID from the previous command.

If nothing's running, rename the .jriver folder in your users' home folder.

Try starting mediacenter19 again from the terminal.

Renamed and started again. I got the message during install that I had until the 9th of jan. 2014 before time-out .
Now my previous settings are indeed gone but checking registration info again: still 0 days left in registration. Version = .94

What if you uninstall with the --purge option (check its really gone) and rename the .jriver folder once more, and then install version .92?

I thought the timeout info was kept in the .jriver folder  ?

Rechecking in Mediacenter: 0 days left.

Hehe just now I realize what you mean  ;D

The info box for registration info says zero days - it does that for me too. Licenses aren't active yet so there's a timeout on each version. Every once in a while this timeout is moved forward by a month or so. The popup box says timeout at 01/09/2014, this is correct.

By the way, should it be possible in version .94 to load a database from a another harddisk or directory, for example
/mnt/media?
I am having trouble doping that and want to exclude jriver as the problemen.

Rename /Move files via Library-Tools will only change the database entry, but will not touch the file on disk.

It should, but if you read the bug list posted by InflatableMouse, you'll see a lot of entries around this topic, so it might not work jet.
Also, keep in mind, to adjust the access rights, so you have access to this folder. Usually, external media are mounted like /mnt/media/xxxx or as /media/xxxx, where xxxx defines the mounted media.

Smartlists? JRiver Media Center 19.0.94 for Debian
« Reply #19 on: December 30, 2013, 11:52:05 am »

Bob,
Has MC 19 for Linux been set up for smartlists? And if so, can these smartlists be set for multiple genres? Can these genre smartlists be programmed not to play songs in another specific genres smartlist (such as Christmas)? Example "I'd Like You for Christmas" which would fall into  mood, romance, and female vocal genre smartlists as well as a Christmas one, but could not be allowed to play except during the Christmas season (this feature was present in the old MJ8 program)?
If this feature is not added, will it be done before MC 19 is finalized?

I still have my main computer in the shop due to an illness in my "guru's: family, so have been using another much older very slow one.

Thanks, and Happy New Year,
tlcmd (aka Dick)

Dick, I'm not an expert on smartlists but they should work the same as in the windows version of 19. Perhaps someone who's used them could chime in?

fwiw, I've converted (copied) all of my smartlists over to Linux19 and they work just fine as before.  Not the most complex, but I do make inclusive and exclusive use of genres (+ other fields) for quite a few of them and I've found no inconsistencies whatsoever so far.

tlcmd, if I'm understanding you correctly, for this example, you have a track with multiple genres, hence the track my occur in multiple smartlists (based on genre).  You then want that track to only play from all of those smartlists during a specific calender period.  Is this what you're shooting for?

Edit:  Meh, pardon my hurry....I guess the first question is, how are you doing it now and why would it not work the same way?
