Feature requests
« on: July 30, 2014, 05:27:18 pm »

I'll start this off with a major feature request to address a limitation related to how the Mac handles hidden folders beginning with periods.

- Add a warning when trying to import hidden folders that begin with periods. I've had issues since MC was released for both Mac and Linux where MC can't import hidden folders that begin with periods (e.g. Phil Collins' ...But Seriously album). It affects the Linux version too, so this could kill two birds with one stone. This topic covers this limitation.

- support output to multiple different airplay devices, i.e. selecting specific airplay devices for each zone
- ensuring synchronization of music between linked zones

In particular Qobuz, Spotify

Good to have more flexibility in upsampling [eg I can convert to DSD but keep HD files as they are]

PS: already purchased as I trust you :-)

Same price as for the Windows version.  I'll purchase and look forward to the new features, but paying the same price would imply video support in this version ... no?   ?

Must be a problem with your setup - I play DSD ISOs now with both the Geek Out and iFi Micro iDSD - works like a champ.

Just purchased the upgrade. I am very happy with the current feature set, the program does (almost) everything I need admirably and I am happy to support further development. Here are my priorities:

- proper Mac look and feel
- Airplay integration

I am aware that both are a bit of a challenge from the developer's point of view - but in my opinion they are crucial.

Re: JRiver 19 v. JRiver 20
« Reply #12 on: August 07, 2014, 01:38:24 pm »

Aloha,

I got messages that I've successfully installed JRiver 20 but there was no new icon or application.  My JRiver still says "Media Center 19."  It does look like the control page is brighter than before, however.

Also, please explain to me how to rip and burn via JRiver.  I've been doing so with iTunes, then copying files to an external HD, then importing to JRiver.

Thanks!

20 has not been released yet.
Your license is valid for both 19 and 20, and you will be able to update to 20 once it is available.

As already stated at another place in this forum: The program still does not have a look and feel of a real MAC program. Version 19 is much better than version 18, but definitely not ready or to call perfect.
There are also still some tag issues with importing or exporting files, so that I still use XLD for conversion. Most important to me is the program stability. Forget about features and make it rock stable. The program here and then still crashes, even though this is only in rare cases.

Have just upgraded.

Paste tagging for the Mac version of MC would be extremely useful.

Also a facility for splitting FLAC files on import (currently, MC seems to show the individual track details but without actually splitting the file, which is odd).

I also just bought the MC 20 upgrade for Mac, and the main feature that I would like to see is built-in support for multiple Airplay Devices + add support for them via Gizmo.

I have now enabled such functionality by using Airfoil, MC 19 and 2 different remote apps per device (JRemote + AF Remote on iOS and Gizmo + RemoteLess on android).
It would be nice to see this all embedded in MC and 1 remote app to have true house-wide audio.

Cheers,
Charles

Ripping for Mac would be nice. If not possible, how about a single-use PC license for those of us who rip CDs on another computer? Right now I rip on my PC using Exact Audio Copy and then copy the FLAC files over to my Mac. Would be nice to rip right in JRiver on my PC; could probably even set the target folder to my networked drive on my Mac. But don't want to buy JRiver twice just to do this! Thank you!

Why not (for now) use XLD for ripping on your Mac? XLD also supports AccurateRip. I'm using Metadatics

Would be great to actually have:

Tools / Send to / Send to (external)

This is in the menu, however it isn't working.

I have countless live albums to edit out the long applauses but i can't open the external editor (Fission) with the current title from inside MC.

Need the ability for MC to receive input from apps that have macro abilities like Keyboard Maestro, QuickSilver or TextExpander.

As it is now, none of these apps can do their job with MC.

In case you didn't know, you can copy and paste into Microsoft Excel or OpenOffice Calc and then create a PDF. You can use the Audio > Files View and Select All (Ctrl+A), Copy, and then Paste into a spreadsheet. Add columns to the View if you want more tags.

The ability to upconvert DSD signal to a higher DSD signal such as DSD 64 to DSD 128 such as in foobar2000. As well as volume manipulation during DSD playback from a DSD based source such as DSF/DFF or SACD-ISO.

This is there already.  Pick 2x DSD from the Output Format page of DSP Studio.

But as far as I understand that would upconvert everything to 2xDSD. What if one wants to upconvert 1xDSD to 2xDSD but play 192 PCM native for example?

The solution for that right now would be to create additional zones, and use Zone Switch, switching on sample rate/file type.

This does not work when outputting to a DAC, foobar has a method called SDM conversion in their ASIO component driver that allows even DSD 64 to be upsampled to a higher rate of DSD up to 512 or higher I beleve and then bitstreamed to the DAC.

Another one might be:

I'd like to add one request/idea to the two I already made:

namely one I already asked also in this thread: http://yabb.JRiver.com/interact/index.php?topic=90247
Although Matt said, he wants to keep the two functions seperate because of the current structure of internal processing, I'd really like to see:
- Encoding options depending on input sample rate

Oh, I agree that it would be a simpler solution from an end-user's standpoint.
But if you want something that works just now, that's what you have to do.

Also, the folks at iFi-audio report that MC for Windows has a fix for DSD streaming that eliminates the rather loud crackle-pop when switching from PCM to DSD streaming or switching between DSD sample rates.  Note that this only happens when MC is configured for DSD streaming (DoP).  If this is true can this fix be applied to the Mac version as well?

Edit:  iFi-audio reports that this feature is labeled "Play a little silence on DoP stop".
