I am an audiophile as I suspect many of your customers are. Many audiophiles have a MAC mini/MAC laptop they use to stream/play music off of(many Stereophile reviewers included). I have heard MAC usage as a music server is it a much higher percentage(than the general populateion) because MACs, as a whole, have better hardware and are quieter. I have been a Windows user my entire life and continue to be, but use MAC for music server duties after a few tries with custom fan-less PCs.

I have spent a lot on my stereo and can hear drastic differences in sound quality based on how I route my music to the stereo system. I currently have an expensive DAC that I stream to over my home network via JRiver works great for music I have bought. BUT - with services like Tidal starting up, I want to be able to stream Tidal to this DAC and use JRiver as the output on my MAC. I would also like to do with with services like Pandora, etc..... I understand you can do this with Windows with the right configuration.

One could say - just do your Airplay thing with MAC, but that does not give the best quality and also I don't have any Airplay devices on my network anyway.

With Tidal and other services offering higher quality streaming, I have really stopped buying music and going the subscription route. I hope JRiver keeps up with the changes out there and adapts further the ability to be part of music networking setups. We will always have our songs on music servers we own and JRiver plays those well, but has a lot of work to do on the integration of music streaming services that appear to be taking over. I have been migrating over to streaming and the only reason I have not made a complete jumps is because of the lack of hi-res content(CD and above) streaming. Tidal and other services have now largely fixed that, I can't see myself buying too many more songs. I would rather just maintain a playlist at Tidal or Spotify vs buying, storing, and then organizing music that is largely stuck at home.

I would be great if you could somehow "browse" your Tidal or Spotify library from JRiver and play it. Or at the minimum be able to stream these services through JRiver on both Windows and MAC.

New to jriver and just switched from Pure Music and couldn't be happier. No more crashes and happy now with my DAC which kept crashing running PM. I also would love to see jriver stream Tidal.

We've spent a fair amount of time on getting Tidal to work. It isn't working yet. There may be some problems with their API when used from the U.S.

We still hope to get it going.

I got the newsletter this morning, telling me about the WDM driver for the Windows version of MC. Is that the solution we are talking about here? Because it wouldn't need the integration of TIDAL into MC. You just play it from the TIDAL desktop controller and use the MC Audio Engine as a booster for your sound quality

The WDM driver is only for the PC, not for MAC. Also, the TIDAL interface on the computer isn't that great and can't be browsed from a handheld device. Full integration into JRiver would be awesome.

The 'browsability' from a handheld device is not exclusively up to JRiver I guess, but also to the manufacturers of remote apps like JRemote. Unless TIDAL themselves are working on a solution like Spotify Connect, where the online music service 'lives' in your streaming device and you control it from the app on your smartphone or tablet. A whole new level of cooperation would probably be needed to achieve this.

Let's assume for a moment that a stand alone Mac mini running nothing but JRiver would be the 'Apple of Choice' for most people who (like me) want an elegant computer-streaming solution in their main hifi-set. Because if you had a laptop there you probably wouldn't need TIDAL integration for MC in the first place because of the display and keyboard and all, right? With a stand-alone Mac mini you would always need a good, third-party remote solution to get it working. And as much as I genuinely admire the very hard work of JRiver, that could prove to be a tricky one.

That's why I chose a different solution altogether and bought myself a Bluesound Node that already has near-flawless TIDAL integration ánd a great remote app. The other advantage is that the Node has a Tune-In module for hassle-free internet radio. Which is also still a bit of a bother with MC, in which you have to make a playlist containing the streaming-server URL's of the internet radio stations you want to listen to. It's a real pain in the backside that most of the internet radio station's server-URL's are very hard (if not impossible) to find.

I absolutely love JRiver MC. I use it on a daily basis - to incredible results and satisfaction - and I promote it as much as I can. But perhaps we have to accept that it may never become the 'be all-end all' solution for every streaming purpose you can think of.

have read with interest - a lot of crying about Tidal. I feel lucky because I hate the Tidal interface and being European use the EXCELLENT QoBuz which streams in 96/24 (does Tidal?) - plus you can buy albums .... Someone also said that airplay is bad quality - arm it is 48KHz 24 bit isn't it?
