Questions about Upgrading?
« on: July 30, 2014, 01:13:11 pm »

Windows Instructions      Windows Upgrade Purchase

Mac Instructions

Please use this thread if something doesn't work.

A few answers first:

1.  MC20 builds are available on our Download Page.

2.  If you bought MC19 after July 1, 2014, you received an MC20 license (Mac or PC).

3.  An MC20 license will work with both MC20 and with recent builds of MC19.

4.  You can retrieve your old license(s) by using option 2 on the Restore Page.

5.  Mac and PC licenses are separate.  You can upgrade from either by purchasing a Master License.  It works with Windows, Mac, and Linux versions.

Pre-order Media Center 20 today and receive the best price of the year -- just $18.98.

Does this mean I can  prepurchase MC 20  for  $18,98 if I have no previous  version? I tried  via  the  program itself and  opened a page that says "Media Center 20 Windows
JRiver, Inc. $49.98 "

How to get your  "Best price of the year" deal value?

Thanks.

My question is, does the Purchase JRiver Media Center 20 as an Upgrade page work for just Windows or will it for Mac and Linux (when available) licenses too?

Just bought the upgrade.

As MC19 is already installed on all my HTPCs, if I immediately run the new MC20 .mjr file on my actual MC19, will future installations of MC20 will already be registered or will I have to burn one of the 10 restore as MC20 becomes available (after 14 days) ?

Thank you to all the team, this is becoming an annual tradition :-)

When I buy the upgrade, do I install the MC20 licence into my current MC19 installations before MC20 is available?

If so, will MC19 upgrade itself to MC 20 via the normal "Help / Update Channels / Check for Updates" or the Automatic Update process, according to my "Update Channels" preferences?

EDIT: On re-reading, I guess my questions are similar to rudyrednose's. Mine are just simpler to understand! :P

When it's available, you'll just need to install it.  It will use the license you installed for MC19.

When MC20 is available, just download and install it.  It will find the license if you've installed it for MC19.

Hello,

This is not a question but I hope you will take consideration of my comment here below.

If possible starting MC 20 try to put out a "release" process separating "Beta" from "Release".
Way to often xx.0.1.xxx is fixing something not working out in previous xx.0.1.xxx. I know debugging with the users' help is an important part of the process for the product.

As I mentioned elsewhere for "add-on remote" :
Quote
Note :  Your post July 06 requested Ver. 19.0.133  ---> Now July 25 Ver. 19.0.156

I'm skipping most "upgrades" because they do have not real "Stable" value. If, as often, old habits are too hard to shake and if I'm mistaken I'll gobble my post  ;)

MC already has 3 version channels, "Stable", "Latest" and "Beta". Latest is usually updated once a week or so, while Stable is updated far less often and only if no known problems exist. If you want that, just set MC to that as your update channel (which is the default as well).

Obviously there can be no guarantees that there will never be any problems in the "Stable" versions, but it should be far less than if you use "Latest" (or any version posted on the forum).

I have upgraded to MC20....it's a no brainer IMO.  However, is it possible that JRiver could be used with a non-JRiver Renderer (AURALiC ARIES) without the use of a computer?  I just love JRiver and JRemote and would like to use it instead of their app.  I think the market would be massive for this need.  I currently use Minimserver to go along with their DS Lightning App but would love to replace all of that and just use JRiver/JRemote or even keep Minimserver and use JRiver/JRemote.

Do all settings and libraries transfer to MC 20 intact?  When upgrading before, I seem to remember my main library being copied to a user folder somewhere instead of just staying in the desired directory it was in before upgrading.

Thanks for a great product. I have just bought MC19 and now faced with the upgrade to MC20 after 1 month. Before spending the $20  can you please at least make a list of the key changes and or new features that will be made available in MC20. The only issue raised on your 'change log' is something about JRiver requiring a simpler interface to the likes of Hulu and Netflix. A useful 'feature/service' would be for JRiver to provide a US based Hulu / Netflix proxy service which could be included in the annual 'licensing' charge!! I suppose another reason for the 'upgrade' is to continue receiving fixes.

If I had to guess, there probably won't be any video support in the Pono player.

Ditto. I just paid the price because I find many of the features of this media player (that I know about) are must haves and besides I really don't mind supporting software that is being actively improved from version to version, especially for this price. Looking forward to MC 20 for the song linking feature alone!

I am continually amazed at how many people will complain over $20 (cost of upgrade) but yet will spend insane amounts of money on silly things.  Do you people have any idea how many hours are spent developing these tools?  It's INSANE!  Look at how many people Jim has and I'm sure he would like to have more.  Personally, I'd rather pay $20 every year than a massive lump sum upfront for good. At least now, at any time you can opt out and not upgrade and what you have works until it's not supported anymore.

Keep up the great work JRiver!

Web page refuses to recognize valid registration code for version 19 when I try to purchase upgrade. The registration info came straight from JRiver.

I'm stumped here. How can I go about buying the upgrade if wevsite won't recognize my registration code?

Make sure you're on the right page.  Windows or Mac.  There is a link at the top of the instructions page for both.

Same! As someone involved professionally in trying to get people to buy stuff my company sells, I am embarassed how quickly I hit the Purchase link .. but I really do want to support ongoing development. That's what I'm buying in to, not just the feature list  :D

I received an email about a special pre order price of $18.98 for V20. I click on the link in the email, .../upgrade to mc20 and it takes me to the “upgrade to mc20 page”,  here it provides another link to the “download page” but the download here is for MC 19.0.146 (which I am already using) NOT 20 but seeing no other choice I click that link and it downloads ver 19.0.146.  I am not asked for any payment info for version 20.  I don't get it???

The latest available is currently MC19.  MC20 builds will start to appear in a few weeks.

The MC20 license works with both MC19 and MC20.

You can purchase an upgrade now for $18.98.  The price is normally $26.98.

OK, just read the upgrade page and I am confused.

I own MC18 and, while I had considered upgrade to MC19, decided to wait for MC20.  I read now that I need to purchase MC19.

Can you please be more specific as to what I need to do and purchase to get MC20.  Please do not just refer me to the upgrade page as I find it very confusing.  Hopefully I am not the "Lone Ranger" in this regard.

Thank you in advance.

You don't need to purchase MC19.   You can buy an MC20 license as an upgrade from MC18.  You can use that license with either MC19 or MC20 (when available).

Try reading the instructions again.  Tell me what confused you if you can.

Upgraded.

Congratulations on another year of accomplishment despite adversity.  Bravo!  Looking forward to the next 12 months.

Question: I got a "license successfully installed" so that's good but is there a way to tell within MC19 that the newer license is there for the upcoming MC20?  Just wondering (and always a bit paranoid when upgrading or installing anything!  ;D).

Just checking before I update will the new builds of MC20 continue to support Windows XP and kernel streaming

No answer yet ?

I have been using your software since MC17 and it has worked perfectly playing flac files of CD rips and downloaded Hi Res files exclusively

If there is any doubt about supporting XP I will stick with MC19

Thanks for a truly great player  :) :)

Upgraded.

Congratulations on another year of accomplishment despite adversity.  Bravo!  Looking forward to the next 12 months.

Question: I got a "license successfully installed" so that's good but is there a way to tell within MC19 that the newer license is there for the upcoming MC20?  Just wondering (and always a bit paranoid when upgrading or installing anything!  ;D).
Thanks.  If you installed the license with MC19, MC20 will find it.
